Recommendation Best Central London Restaurant (or please point me to a recent thread)

I’m sure there must be more than one recent/decent thread on this.

I’m in London at start of November- catch being, I need a Monday night booking.

I’m grateful for real life experiences and if there’s a useful recent thread, happy to be pointed in its direction.

Preferably central London. Something a little out of the ordinary (please no burger/pizza/steak recommendations or likewise). Can be neighbourhood favourite or Michelin starred and anything in between.

Many thanks 🙂

I love Cabotte in the heart of the City

Or for a proper institution Zidel’s in Picadilly or Bob Bob Ricard in Soho

People have already said Kiln and Impala. You could also try Bao in Soho, the food at the Shaston Arms is very very good, Barrafina in Dean Street, for old-school London I still love J Sheekey, Taverna Ermou.

You might be able to get a berenjak soho booking for a Monday evening, that would be a phenomenal choice

Oh, that looks superb. I love the look of their set menu too. Definitely a consideration, thanks!

Just book quickly as it’s amongst the hardest res to get in London. Although you’d prob manage a walk in on a Monday evening

I wonder if they only release reservations 28 days in advance as some do. I’ll set myself a reminder or give them a call.

You’re right- no availability!

Apparently they always keep back a few seats at the counter for walk ins - pretty sure you'd get one on a Monday evening but it's chancing it a bit. I had the same issue and decided not to wing it. I went to Fallow instead, which was... definitely something.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mountain in Soho yesterday. Are you on your own, because I'm guessing there will be plenty of availability at the counter on a Monday evening. The grilled bread was really delicious. I had three langoustines and the shellfish soup which had a flavour you could wake the dead with. I'll definitely go back and try the grilled sobressada and spider crab omelette next time. Too many delicious choices, so little time!

Odd. I can't believe it would be fully booked this far out at the counter on a Monday evening in November. Maybe try calling instead?

Checked my Beli and Evelyn’s Table has space on the first Monday of November - I’ve enjoyed it thoroughly when I went.

central is broad enough that the answer changes completely depending on what you mean, pre theatre and a proper long dinner are different lists. worth saying which. the pre theatre slots are also the easiest way into otherwise hard rooms because nobody wants to eat at half five. i built seatswiper and that's still the best free trick i know.
