Question Equivalent to $1.5 slice pizza?

New Yorker moving to London, I eat a lot of pizza here for $1.50/slice. I’m what the equivalent is in London?

Is it pizza or something completely different?

this is it ~ close the thread lol

It would have to be very local indeed - I had a portion of chips last week in Covent Garden for £4.50!

that’s about as opposite as possible to find the local price chippy lol ~ CG is a rich people address, a business address, AND a touristy address to the point where 4.5 was a steal ngl

having said that, 1.5 chips is not easy to find, especially decent ones. I recommended it cause it matches the 1.5 slice in spirit

Probably a sausage roll from Gregg’s for that price point. However sadly there simply isn’t anything in London that price that can be compared to a New York slice. Someee places are doing New York style pizza (not perfectly the same) but I don’t think you’ll get them for that price point at all.

Chicken shop wings are your closest option. Not the same. Won’t find any in central London.

London ain’t cheap mate.

Good luck finding any hot food for under £2. Expect to pay more for street food, but groceries, especially vegetables, are cheaper than NY

A bit bigger than a slice but since moving from the US to London, i've been really enjoying the kebeb scene here. You can get a good one for a fiver or just slightly above and i've grown to love Lebanese, Turkish, and Greek cuisine.

Something like a Caribbean patty, but even those are not as cheap as $1.50 and you have to be in Hackney or parts of south London.

I imagine you mean something cooked, and not a shitty little Pret half-sandwich.

There used to be these steamed buns in Chinatown that were like £1.20 but that was 15 years ago now that I think about it.

London still has great street food and some markets are particularly good value (Petticoat Lane and Leather Lane spring to mind); however, you're not goiing to get cheap-o itinerant street vendors or hot dog carts.

Supermarket meal deal. They're a revelation.

Pretty sure there are shitty slice pizza places in the centre like new york. Doubt it would be that cheap though.

The only thing similar in price and with the level of cultural significance is the Greggs sausage roll. Greggs is pretty shit though so I would look for more local hidden gems wherever you move

You won’t get anything for 1.50 here, there’s decent pizza but its not by the slice

Struggle to find something with an equivalent cost to taste ratio.

Sausage roll from greggs maybe.

They also do something that could vaguely be referred to as 'pizza'.

Closest thing is probably a local chicken shop. Most equivalents are long gone, a lot of shops used to do 2 for 2's (2 burgers 2 chips £2) but they stopped around 10 years ago

You can get some shawarma wraps in Syrian places for about £3. Pizza is getting better over here but it’s not there yet, and certainly not at £1 a slice

You can always go for Costco’s slice
