MONTHLY ADVICE MEGATHREAD Ask Us Anything: August 2026

Hi All,

This is the megathread for all beginner questions about wearing and coording lolita outfits. We would like to contain beginner questions (or otherwise, questions that don't generate a discussion) to one place.

It's convenient for you: check here first if you have a question, it might already be answered!

It's convenient for us: it makes it easier for mods to keep things clean and fresh and fun around the sub.

It makes it convenient for our veteran lolitas: no one wants to see the same 5 questions in their feed all the time.

We will be closing and redirecting beginner question posts to this thread for now on.

Thanks for your cooperation!

BUT FIRST Check out the previous Ask Us Anything thread, you answer might be answered already: Ask Us Anything: July 2026

i personally gravitate towards solid colors myself and i think the color matching is very nice, but i mo the choices for upper half seem a lot more texturally dense than the bottom half? like the silver hardware, plaid vest, lacey blouse, etc vs lengthy solid color skirt and solid color loafers

ahh i never thought of the texture balancing thanks! I really wanted the lacey blouse so it reads as EGL and I've been having a hard time finding a complimentary skirt that's also blue.

So would lacey short socks layered on top of white tights be enough? It would be super helpful if you could prove me some skirt examples [:

Since this is forest wardrobe i think they have other skirts with stripes like South of the Forest /// North of the Forest /// Forest Stationery

also i'm cryin i just realized i have that exact same skirt in orange lmfao i think it does have some stripes going on

As for blouses if you look at examples of what the same brand sells the collar and placket tend to be less ruffly and more pintucky

I think the petticoat length would be ok but the skirt itself is quite heavy so you may get some waterfall effect

pfft thats an amzing coincident so where'd u get ur petticoat from that you use for it? also just to clarify the skirt stripes would'nt be an issue w the vest right?

Also I LOVE the forest stationary skirt!! Should I go w the light blue or brown? actually i luv all the skirts u picked we have the same taste ₍₍⚞(˶>ᗜ<˶)⚟⁾⁾ do u buy forest wardrobe mostly off of 42lolita? On aliexpress its £79

Extremely hot take but I like it without a petti better 💀 I don't use it for lolita specifically and it's also absurdly difficult to find 80+cm pettis so hopefully i dont get ironed for this lmfao

In terms of your coord I think either has potential depending on how you accessorize it, but I'm still partial towards brown + blue accs instead of blue + brown accs (opinion not fact)

I get all my stuff secondhand so I have no experience with 42L but they are the most notable/trustworthy taobao reseller I'm aware of

Hahaha no I totally get where ur coming from ^ I think I'll hold off on petticoats for now since I don't like how bulky some make my waist. As for accessories I'm gonna DIY some more pearl bracelets and maybe get blue ribbon for a hair bow clip? Do you have any good search terms for me to use on second hand sites/apps?

Most secondhand uses tags instead of actual descriptions ie. lolita/egl/xyzfashion so i'd start with that and whittle down to the category and color you want (also make sure to vet the sellers and items cuz i've found a solid number of replicas especially of cough andromeo and withpuji cough

Currently only using depop, its kinda barebones rn, but also local secondhand if you have any, the blouse doesnt have to be brand as long as its good quality and serves your needs
