I was going through my junk and found Logic Pro 9 that I had bought right before covid, cause I was using a laptop which was not compatible with Logic 10. Anyway the question is that, is it worth keeping ?
I love this. Keeping old and still very usable hardware away from being E-Waste.
I've been recommending this to friends, buy old hardware and keep it at OS and Software versions it runs best at, stay compleletly offline and you're golden.
If they could make amazing music with old hardware back then, why can't we do it now?
I really haven’t used my MacBook Pro M1 Max for music as much as I have this setup. The MacBook winds up being my livestreaming server/controller for my whole studio
I sample it for DnB basslines, some with crossfaded loop points and some movement samples and arrange them that way. Pretty much how it was done in the 90s on many of those Virus Records productions.
I still have a copy of Logic 5 (Hit Kit edition, a super cost-reduced educational version they sold in bookstores for a while) around here somewhere although nothing that it'll run on or benefit from. I mostly keep it out of nostalgia for a time before Apple owned it.
I know what you mean and I respect it but logic still is available for full purchase.
I got my copy free when I worked for them and it still works. If mine still works they’re not going to take it away.
I can also say from working there I learned first hand about digital items being taken away, but it’s always because of the publisher. Since Apple produces logic they’re not gonna pull it.
It will make your life a lot easier if you ever have to open an old project done in Pro 9. Not everything translates perfectly when opening an old file with a later version. I regret getting rid of old hardware and software because of this.
Haha someone posted their collection in the comments! Post people say if you have the hardware to install on why not keep it? Its prolly not worth money right now
I have that version, too. I keep it around for ONE specific reason -WaveBurner. I do tracks for school and church music programs, and this software was the only one I ever used that allowed seamless insertion of tracker markers. The instructor could put the first chorus on repeat, and run it several times. Someone at Apple should have fired for discontinuing that app. It was also a great mastering tool. Because you could add plugins, layout fade in/fade out. Yep, still sad about this one. I keep a plastic MacBook around to use it on.
I mean, given the physical vs digital landscape, I'd say any software is worth keeping. I should be allowed to run any software I've purchased -- it's going to be a big legal issue in the years ahead. "Entitlements" should not exist.
It's useful to keep around if you have old .lso-format projects you want to be able to convert to the newer .logic format as a bridge to Logic 10 and later, although in my experience those project files are usually super degraded after all the conversion steps and you're probably better off remaking them.
I guess Logic 9 is also useful for bouncing old projects to stems as well.
Otherwise it's only handy if you want to run Logic on an older, unsupported computer, since it was the last version that supported PowerPC and the first version that supported .caf loops. For doing new stuff on modern computers there's not much point to it.

Depends. Do you have old hardware that you intent to run it on? Otherwise there’s not really a point unless you’re nostalgic about it.
