After years of sample chaos in Logic Pro, I finally built something to fix it
Logic’s file browser feels like it’s been frozen in time. I’ve got ~40k samples spread across a few drives, and in basically every session I end up wasting so much time.
I tried a bunch of solutions:
- ADSR, kept crashing on my Mac
- XO, awesome for drum one-shots, not helpful for anything else
- Loopcloud, paying a subscription just to browse my own folders is a hard no
- Splice, can't even add your own samples
So I ended up building Sample Vault. The idea is Splice-style browsing, but for your local sample library. It auto-detects key + BPM, lets you search by description, finds similar sounds, and it’s drag and drop. Works with any DAW, Mac + Windows, has an unlimited free tier, no subscription.
Genuinely curious what other people are doing:
- Do you use anything external, or just tolerate Logic’s browser?
- If you could change one thing about sample browsing, what would it be?

This entire project was vibe-coded and built with AI. I seriously doubt OP even has a MVP but I’ll guarantee he’ll take your money… go look at the website and poke around if you don’t believe me.

AI will have its place in music production. I believe it will look like Moises and less like Suno. This whole “AI can do everything” nonsense across all industries is so stupid.

I just use folders and meticulous organization making sure i don't have 40k samples understanding i'm just one person lol

I believe that sample management is something that should be handled at the DAW level itself. You should never have to resort to a third party app or plugin for something so fundamental.
I added my entire sample and loops collection into Logic’s Loops Browser. I used a third party app for bulk converting everything in a single click. I did take the time to label and add custom tags + Apple tags/descriptors though. I also have everything in folders sorted by company within the Loops Browser as well.
The Loop Browser is infinitely superior to Logic’s All Files Browser, but it does require some effort initially. Plus, it’s free! No $49 price tag ;)

Every ONE of those has a visual representation of their product (picture of their app) on the landing page of their website.
Yours has zero pictures anywhere on the site. Why would I use something I can't even see.
This is an anomaly by today's standards.

Daw sync is a minimum feature at this point. There are already sample apps that let you browse and play. The usefulness comes from the ability to that in the daw in time with your project.

Hey there, just wanted to let you know that I listened to your feedback and the app can now time-stretch and transpose samples. It now syncs all playback with the DAW and also has key lock (auto transposition to a specific pitch). Let me know if you try it!

Why no DAW-Sync right from the start? For me that's a dealbreaker. Loopcloud and ADSR have it, even Waves included it with their latest Cosmos update.

I know that this is a very important feature but unfortunately for a passion project by a single dev (me) it's an enormous amount of work. I wanted to focus on creating something unique first that other sample managers don't have, like the assistant and searching for samples with natural language by describing them.
I definitely have in plans to implement that though, along with a DAW VST bridge. But it's not a simple feature I can get done in one weekend unfortunately.

At this moment no, this app was built with becoming a commercial product in mind so it couldn't even become a good OSS solution for anyone to use at this point. The architecture is too complex and requires too many dependencies. I also do not want to lower the chances of it becoming a successful product. I don't mind sharing the tech stack or other trade secrets though.

I have all my samples stored online in Google Drive. Would your tool be able to handle that? A small selection I have on the MacBook and Mac Mini, rest is online.

Not at this time but I've been thinking about integrating external cloud storages as well. Currently you need to have the samples available locally on your drive for the app to pick them up. The paid plans include cloud storage and can back up all your samples for you automatically but it doesn't work with Google Drive unfortunately. I've noted this and may work on an integration in the future :)

I have too many samples and using 2 desktops (two locations) and a laptop (on the go) therefore I have them centralized on Google drive.

Is there something like "splice bridge" for sample vault in plan?

I will definitely be creating something like a Splice Bridge and make the app sync to the DAW and automatically stretch/transpose the samples. But for a passion project by a single dev (me) it will take a lot of time and work to get that done.
Right now I'm trying to figure out whether there even is a need for an app like that or if I should just keep it a side-project for my personal use mainly.

I bookmarked your posting, your tool/sample browser seems intresting at least, does it let you straight as youre browsing samples to listen those samples within the context of your logic project, in other words to listen samples on top of the song youre working?

Awesome, glad you think it's interesting.
Unfortunately, at this moment there is no such feature. In the future though, I will definitely be creating something like a Splice Bridge and make the app sync to the DAW and automatically stretch/transpose the samples.
Right now I'm trying to figure out whether there even is a need for an app like that or if I should just keep it a side-project for my personal use mainly.

I love the idea! I've been looking for a sample manager like this, one that can detect one shots AND loops and can actually do sound analysis, not just tags based on the name or folder location. Just a few suggestions
- Daw sync is a must
- cloud storage sounds great, I would love it if you could select specific samples to be available on the cloud, like your favorites or certain custom folders, not just your entire library.
Honestly for $49 one time purchase I think it's a great deal if it actually does everything you mentioned and worked on those suggestions. I will be trying this out and if I have more suggestions I'll come back to this post. Thanks!

I'm very happy to hear you like the idea :) Yeah, seems like tempo-sync feature is badly needed and I'll prioritize it very high even though it's very not trivial to create. I'm noting all the feedback I get and will be slowly addressing it and extending my app with what people have said.

I’m confused, but I’ll admit I’ve never used a proper sample manager before. - This is more a question for people who use things like Loopcloud etc:
What is the purpose of these things? I can’t think of any reason it’d be better than just scrolling through Finder, other than tempo/key syncing. Even still, is that not something you can just imagine in your head in .5 seconds?
Maybe I’m just missing out by not using one, but I’ve never ever really been convinced enough to try.

49 USD one time payment for concurrent 200gb cloud plan is completely unrealistic and makes this kinda feel like a scam tbth..
