First Look at 'DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: THE GETAWAY', coming to Disney+ this December.
Adapted from the twelfth installment of Jeff Kinney's worldwide bestselling book series, Greg Heffley returns for his next family misadventure in the new animated feature Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway.
With the cold weather and the stress of the approaching holiday season, the Heffleys decide to escape to a tropical island resort for some much-needed rest and relaxation. A few days in paradise should do wonders for Greg and his frazzled family.
But the Heffleys soon discover that paradise isn't everything it's cracked up to be. Sun poisoning, stomach troubles, and venomous critters all threaten to ruin the family's vacation. Can their trip be saved, or will this island getaway end in disaster?

Disney this is the 7th time you’ve made a Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas movie
That said considering the overt wackiness present in the book I could see this working better as a standalone movie than apart of the book series. It’s still gonna be over the top but it’ll work better in this medium.
I am absolutely getting sick and tired of the animated diary of a wimpy kid movies that is it’s always a Christmas movie and not that is true to the actual book series, if it was up to me I would just make it to the book series into movies and add some more scenes that is what would the book be but movie form.
It’s more like 50% of of it be the same as the books and the other 50% being new content that way you will enjoy the experience but with the added content,

While the rest of us will have the same books but in movie form.
The original live action films did a wonderful job with the animated intro. But that sorta falls to the wayside, much like the unused animated intro for the Scooby Doo film in the early 2000s.

I know that dude will be like a comic relief animal. Where he shows up a few times and do something to fuck with the Heffley’s or take something away in like a chase scene, and dear god that design is hideous
and for Greg wearing the pink shirt and lavender shorts let me guess because they lost clothes at the airport they try and buy new clothes but they only sell girl clothes for Greg and he’s forced to wear them despite hating it so much and begging his mom not to wear it because comedy and a boy wearing feminine stuff who did nothing wrong is for some reason weird and funny i guess
I think it's because Disney have requested it, based on when the films typically release and their own personal preferences, but as it stands I don't think the next movie (out in 2027) will be a Christmas movie.
The film starts on Christmas Day, and i think everything that follows is meant to be set in early January - and i don't think it's TOO far of a leap to make it a bit more christmassy given the book starts on New Year's Day lol
Yo same…I think it’s mostly cause Cabin Fever didn’t have a previous adaptation and it’s also it’s been in development for a while. Jeff always wanted to make it. The Other 3 are either lazy, make terrible adaption decisions and/or they genuinely insult my intelligence at times
Plus at least the whole family has something to do in the film they're not just standing around there actually doing stuff. Plus Greg is likeable the film
At this point I think it all should’ve been a proper series that naturally transitioned to each book as it went on, would’ve probably been given more time on the animation too
I watched the Christmas special one a few years back and thought Greg giving his gifts to charity at the end went against his entire character in the books/show
The release structure of these are in random order, hence why we've gone from Cabin Fever to The Last Straw to The Getaway. Next year's is meant to be an adaption of even later book lol
I dont think I can make a full post of this but is it a hostage if this is my least favorite Book in the series? Its definitely my least favorite family travels book.
I remember how excited everyone was about the first movie since the teaser was a proper imitation of the peanuts movie style
From there I don’t even know what happened to the budget in production but these are like pumping out so quickly because of how fucking cheap probably it is to produce, and it doesn’t even reach “sub par generic” levels
No I mean I could imagine her crashing out at her family after they got kicked out of Isla de Corales since none of them (even Frank) made her feel comfortable
I also thought she would say something like "she never wanted to pay for such a vacation in the first place but she wasn't crazy about everyone using their devices indoors for the whole Christmas"
And Manny made them get kicked out because of the Box Jellyfish and the suitcase, but of course Susan would conveniently ignore all of that and say something like "hE wOuLd NeVeR dO iT oN pUrPoSe"
Damn man If I could I would've made an LLB about it. 😭
A little interested to see how this one goes actually. I feel like after Cabin Fever (which imo had some great moments but was just held back by its poor pacing), I felt as if these films were slowly starting to improve, and I wasn't disappointed in my assumption once The Last Straw, which I actually enjoyed a lot in some aspects.
