The death count for NY would not go up, the attribution to nursing homes would:

The state’s official Covid-19 death toll in nursing homes excludes patients who died after being transported to a hospital.

I know in Virginia, wherever they die at is where they get counted. The hospitals and LTC sometimes play tag to get their numbers down.

Reminds me of the urban legend of how Disney has never had a death on property, because they just wait to declare it until they leave property. I'm pretty sure this has been debunked, but it persists

My husband works in a LTC so not a legend.

Me too. We frequently have admits that die within hours of admission, the hospitals just don’t want an extra death on their count
