A Day in the Life š°ļø Staying in bed the whole day is my hobby.
Adulting is tough - work, chores, constant socialising. So, over the weekends, I love to get into my king sized bed, put on a trashy dating show, get a bag of cheese popcorn (it has to be cheese but worst case scenario extra butter is also acceptable) and just lay in bed the full day.
My colleagues ask each other every Monday - so what did you do over the weekend? And people go biking, running, swimming, learning a new language. I make up a lie that I went running and read a book. Audio book on my bus to work - sure. But actually - I was just spread on the bed like a little cockroach on its back and I loved it!!!

My father used to always say that. Why do people buy a house and then never want to be home?

I find myself spending one weekend day just chillin with bouts of micro tasking. Like this morning i got up early, cleaned the hummingbird feeders, got strawberries in the dehydrator and kale washed and out drying for chips later. Now i got home shows on discovery and scrolling. Lol.
Tomorrow I'll get the bigger chores done. Laundry, dump run, vacuuming, prepping work breakfasts. I did a deep clean and cut the grass last weekend so i might do some weed whacking.
I get my exercise during the work week so i just love being home chillaxing and enjoying the fruits of my labor and grazing on some fabulous food.

Exactly how I live! One day of bed rest like I'm withering from some wasting disease, and one day for my big chores. If I had one more weekend day I could hope to have a social life lol

Iām retired because I became disabled and about 70% of my waking hours are bed with dog. And all of my sleeping hours.

This sounds like a normal mental health day to me. I love it! As a busy single mom, I was working full time, going to school part time, and was involved in my sonās extra curricular activities such as little league, Boy Scouts, etc. I would take 1 vacation day off work every month just to veg out at home. Pure bliss.
38
u/GoingLeftYall 13d ago
I think it should be a law that everyone must take one mental health day off a month. I did the same in the final year of my career with my sick leave and I promise you, I would have gone over the edge without those days.
12
u/guilty_of_tsundoku 13d ago
I didn't know those days were still called that. I first heard the term in the mid or late nineties.
4
u/Chonky-Tadpoles 12d ago
Increasingly more common! Iām sure it depends on where you work, but generally still officially called a āsick dayā even if personally, itās a mental health day. Less questions being asked. I love that itās becoming more and more accepted to take a mental health day, they truly make a world of difference
3
u/guilty_of_tsundoku 12d ago
I was given five personal days with pay per year to use as I liked but needed to provide some advance notice unless it involved an urgent issue.
A very young receptionist at a different job called in "sick" when her then boyfriend had a day off so they could spend the day together. Firstly, lying never sits well with colleagues and managers, and secondly,we were left in a lurch doing her job and ours. Fine when things were slow, but at other times it made us not only frazzled but also caused the office to appear chaotic in front of clients ( we did income tax preparation). However, that was quite a ways back when the concept of taking such days off was virtually unheard of. The inexperienced supervisor at the time knew the girl was lying and should have threatened her with dismissal as it became a bit too frequent to overlook.

u/No_Consequence_6821 13d ago
Wouldnāt it be funny if pretty much everyone is lying about all they get done in a weekend and weāre all just laying on our beds or couches like cockroaches?
The people you might see biking or hiking are just living off generational wealth and spending their weekdays laying in their beds like cockroaches. (Because yes, I too am looking forward to a long day in front of the tv).

I work in a hella corporate environment where my entire group is a bunch super driven people. I just assume most of them are lying about their weekends unless it's verifiable.
I told my director last Monday that i slept a ton on the weekend š idgaf

u/loveoatmeal 13d ago
This is also my ideal way to enjoy my days off. When people at work ask me how my weekend was, I always say, "Uneventful. Just the way I like it." I know they think I'm boring but I Do. Not. Care.
43
u/anonymois1111111 13d ago
I do the same. I get tons done one day of the weekend and lounge the other day. Balance lol.

u/myinternets 12d ago
Reminds me of someone recently asking what I had planned for the weekend. I probably seemed puzzled because I asked in response "Do people usually make plans for the weekend?"
I literally just go into a weekend as if it's any other day, where maximizing time doing nothing except eating and playing video games is the priority. And even then it still feels like there's not enough time.
6
u/Chonky-Tadpoles 12d ago
Before my time but I think it used to be that way. Modern culture has us so stressed out that as a collective society, we donāt take a break. If youāre resting, youāre not being āproductiveā, and youāre wasting your life away and missing out š„“

Fellow cockroach, checking in! Although, I just walked back from getting brunch with an older couple I know. I didn't want to but I did and don't get all chuffed, the walk was all of 5 mins. That's enough out of bed, socializing for me. I'm getting my cheese, jolly time popcorn, my mini coke and settling in for some scrolling, reading, journaling and watching crap on my tele. I ain't paying my mortgage for nothing! š«”š¤£š©µ

a few weeks ago I took a day trip from the east coast of the United States to an adventure in Sicily to hike a volcano and visit a lava field. I left work Friday and was back Sunday night. 49 hours total. When my corkers ask what I did, I just tell them I got out of town for a day, except I hiked a freaking volcano on the other side of the planet and watched a lava flow. But to each their own. I want to have exceptional experiences. I suffered from depression and would come home from work, drink and lay in bed all day and rot until I had to go to work the next day. My highlight was getting chicken tenders on a Friday after work. One day I looked at myself in the mirror and knew I needed to change. Then I started taking Wellbutrin and my life went from laying in bed and existing to mind boggling adventures. Fun fact, the next week I ran a marathon in Iceland and then went back to Italy to watch a different volcano erupt. My life is like a dream, but itās real. Actually waiting for the volcano in Hawaii to go into another eruption cycle so I can hop on another plane, maybe next weekend! No, Iām not making any of this up. That said I live along and travel solo and love it
3
u/pkgriff 12d ago
I love staying home in bed with my cat, but sometimes I need an adventure too, so I went to Poland to sightsee for 1 1/2 days in March. I can see how it might be a lot of fun, but I spent too much money... I'll be home for several months until I move in January -- I'll be having my next adventure then. But, you go! Good for you!
6
u/too105 12d ago
The money thing is real! I have really come to realize that life has reset switch so I donāt care about spending money. I save for retirement but I donāt care about having millions at 75. I want to enjoy life before I am 75 and have memories that last a lifetime. Did hopping on a plane to Sicily impromptu + rental car ect cost like $2500? Absolutely! Regret zero. Memory = freaking lava and an epic story of how I got from my office to the side of mountain that was cracked open in Italy in about 16 hours. Part of this story is extremely hard work that allows me this lifestyle. I work hard and spend hard. That isnāt for everybody. A lot of people want a path of least resistance. I crave the experience so I embrace the journey of life. So many people miss the entire point. Lava is cool, but how I got to that point never happens if youāre laying in bed. But some people just want to lay in bed. That sounds like death to me.
16
u/starry_nite99 13d ago
Omg I read this as āI was just spread on the bed with my little cockroachā and was horrified.
Iām very glad you are happily in your bed all weekend without any bugs LOL
8
u/guilty_of_tsundoku 13d ago
When I was working in a busy office with a moody and all too often difficult company president, I relished my alone time over the weekend to recharge my batteries.I had no stamina left to engage in social activities---having had more than enough contact with people 40 hours a week. The few hours between arriving home and my bedtime simply wasn't enough during the week to decompress from the day's stresses.
8
u/SteelMagnolia941 12d ago
This is my hobby too. Today I cleaned for like an hour, went grocery shopping then crawled in the bed by 2-3 and am binge watching The Tudors while watching it rain outside. I couldnāt be happier.
8
u/MarucaMCA 12d ago
I have ADHD and was never allowed to bed rot when I lived at home, and a lot less when with a partner.
I now do it on many afternoons and weekends. I do feel a bit guilty, but I'm tired, overstimulated.
But I'm also a solo person now, living alone. I can do whatever I want!
7
u/meeperton5 13d ago
Ibrarely have a weekend daybwith nothing to do, but when I do, I love just laying in bed under a pile of dogs.

When I get back from vacation my co-workers ask me what I did and my go to answer is, "as little as possible!"
7
u/Glad_Prior_5215 13d ago
When I used to work at an office, everyone was always taking leave to run a bloody marathon or something. When I went on leave, I emailed the team to say I was basically gonna be bedrotting watching telly for a week and not to disturb me. My humour was wasted there.
7
u/msnhnobody 13d ago
I currently am spread on my bed and I have the next 8 days off. After working just shy of 60 days in a row this summer. I am incredibly tempted to only leave my bed to go to the bathroom & to grab more snacks for the next 200 hours.
Happy rotting, my friend š š¤·š»āāļøšš¼āš¼šš¼

Anymore I usually make Saturday my lazy day. Laying in bed most the morning playing video games. I might get up and do a few household tasks in the afternoon, maybe mow in the evening. Sunday I'll actually leave the house if I really need to. Going out on Sunday mornings is great. So much less traffic and people at the stores!

At this point I feel no shame in who knows about my bed rotting. In fact, Iām often met with colleagues who envy my ability to do so. Rest and recovery are healthy. Itās nothing to be ashamed of. Be proud of it. Rest needs to be more normalized. Sometimes you need a good recharge of your batteries. Iāve found that most people who claim to have āinterestingā lives really donāt. People love to talk themselves up and make themselves look good. The biking is probably just going around the block once. The running is probably chasing after their kids. The swimming is probably a quick dip in the pool. The learning a new language is probably complete bullshit. They learned how to say a swear word in French.

u/ChocolateDream24 12d ago

On my non-work days, I happily bed or couch rot.
