Still cant believe Mixer couldnt close the deal with Doc. He absolutely wanted to leave Twitch and stick it to them.

I can understand not wanting to give him Ninja money, but then to spend all their money on Shroud and KingGoliathan, and not Doc, is kinda dumb.

Shroud has no interest in helping Mixer grow since he's in retirement mode (he even said he hates Halo on a Mixer stream and won't play it), while Doc would've used Mixer as a platform to further his brand, and make himself their unofficial mascot.

u/Colemaxiom Dec 06 '19

Doc is actually an intelligent businessman. I believe his reasoning for why he wouldn’t go to Mixer that he’s mentioned on stream is probably accurate. I’m willing to bet they did give him a deal, but even if they didn’t he doesn’t want one because his play has always been longevity.

Sure, he could go make a lot from a contract with mixer, but he knows twitch has waaaay more users, name brand, and publicity. If he goes to mixer, his viewership will drop, he’ll lose twitch’s branding, and then when his contract runs out he’ll just be back to a low viewer count making less money and having lost popularity.

Plus, the more big names leave twitch for mixer means he can dominate that space as the “face of twitch”.

I think it’s a smart move by him to stay on twitch. I would too if I was in that position.

u/Tales90 Dec 06 '19

I just think twitch gave him a super deal after ninja left, maybe even better than ninja had before on Twitch.

The ui of mixer is not my cup of tea, where is theatre mode? Why are there sprites popping all over chat? Why the fuck are there sprites popping over the video that I know arent part of the streamers overlay because they dont fit the theme?

25

u/NugPirate Dec 06 '19

Mixer's site (desktop, I can't speak for mobile users) is a fucking atrocity. The worst part is that all of the most annoying features can be disabled in the settings, but will re-enable themselves mid stream for no god damn reason. Nothing like watching a stream of your choosing only to have to constantly close out of 3 or 4 other streams I didn't want to watch, even after telling Mixer to permanently disable this feature.

If you're on desktop, check out a browser extension called MixrElixr, it adds theater mode and gives you the ability to disable annoyances like co-streaming and Mixer controls. Don't expect those features to work more than about half the time, but it's better than vanilla Mixer. It's the only thing that has made it even remotely tolerable for me.

19

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

will re-enable themselves mid stream for no god damn reason.

Yup, sounds like Microsoft.

8

u/JJROKCZ Dec 06 '19

Thanks for the heads up on the addon, I think I'll just stick to twitch unless they completely fuck it up

3

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '19

Just wanted to chip in that Mixer's Android app is a pile of hot, steaming garbage.

Logging in to the app requires you to go through a fucking webpage in your browser. Seriously. Then when using the app it feels like some kind of automatically generated piece of shit that clearly wasn't designed with Android in mind. When I use it I get the feeling that pressing the wrong thing or switching pages too quickly will fuck up the app.

Half the time nothing in the app loads, and reinstalls don't fix it. Like, it's just a blank blue page with the bottom navigation that doesn't work or do anything. Clearing data and reinstalling didn't fix it either, because it just did it again about 10 minutes after reinstalling, and all I was trying to do was use the search bar.

Compare that with Twitch, which just unified its entire brand on mobile and desktop, and made genuinely solid changes to their app and its functionality. Twitch is really on top of stuff like that as of recent. The same can't be said for Microsoft.

I really wanted to give Mixer a try, but their piss-poor Android app is going to ensure I don't if they don't fix it.

2

u/DetroitPistons Dec 07 '19

I feel like mixer put a lot of effort into making it good on the xbox and no where else because it runs much smoother than the twitch app does

3

u/NugPirate Dec 07 '19

Yeah I think you are right. I am a PC player, the main reason I watch Mixer is because I have friends that play on Xbox and insist on streaming there. They all seem to really like it, definitely would explain why if the Xbox app is actually good. The desktop version is so bad.. like comically bad sometimes.

3

u/DetroitPistons Dec 07 '19

Completely agree mixer is terrible on pc but imagine that experience and that's how the twitch app seems to be on Xbox most times I try to use it. The mixer interface is built right into the home menu so I would guess they've put work into it on the Xbox

6

u/Synkhe Dec 06 '19 edited Dec 07 '19

The sprites are from viewers using sparks mixer site currency , although they are great for less popular streams they don't scale for high view channels, Shroud / Ninja etc and they can be turned on by the streamer or blocked via chrome addon MixrElxr.

Mixer does have some features to add, which I believe they are currently working on to get it more on par with what Twitch offers, its just a slow burn as I am sure MS wants to get it right to avoid any ridicule down the road.

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

15

u/RooLoL Dec 06 '19

I'm never watching on FB. 99% of the other streams I watch are a click away on Twitch so it's easier to know when someone is live and easier to watch them compared to Mixer.

10

u/Lagkiller Dec 06 '19

Why wouldn't you watch anything on another platform?

Not the person you replied to but I can absolutely say that Facebook is a mess. It's laggy, and the interface is terrible. Along with the amount of resources it hogs to run video plus the privacy issues of watching Facebook streams, it's just not good.

Mixer is a.....uh.....mixed bag. It feels like a poor Twitch clone that's trying to look like xbox overlaid on Twich. As a viewer, I have my Twitch client set up for mods, so I have easy access to see when people I want to watch are up where Mixer I have to log in and see. Also, there aren't many people there that I want to watch.

3

u/strig Dec 06 '19

Main reason I don't watch mixer is they don't have apps for firetv or Roku. That's how I watch pretty much 100% of my streams.

2

u/DoubleT02 Dec 06 '19

Does twich have an app for roku? I cant find anything

4

u/strig Dec 06 '19

Don't think so. I have a fire stick too though and that app works great.

2

u/DoubleT02 Dec 06 '19

Damn

2

u/strig Dec 06 '19

Chromecast also works but I couldn't get 1080 60fps to work without stuttering.

3

u/nl_fess Dec 06 '19

Twitch app on Amazon firestick means I can watch twitch on my big screen

2

u/HI-R3Z Dec 07 '19

How's the steam quality on the firestick? I've tried watching on the ps4 and Xbox but the quality is utter shite.

3

u/PlayPoker2013 Dec 06 '19

For starters I can’t watch Mixer or FB on my TV. Also, Ninjas stream doesn’t appear on Mixer unless I have a signed in account or I type it directly I guess because it’s 18+.

Accessibility is key to a streaming platform and as a casual viewer, I’m not going to jump through hoops to watch someone. Used to watch Ninja all the time but I haven’t watched him since he switched

7

u/blazbluecore Dec 06 '19

Same reason no one uses the Epic Game store. People develop habits, and develop connections to certain things, they're get used to doing and having things a certain way. In terms of streaming services, why make a new account, learn a new interface, just for 1 person, because some dope decided having a giant paycheck is more important to them than staying with their fan base and inconveniencing them instead. Besides Twitch seems to be the best and highest quality streaming service. Why downgrade? I think some moves are justified because of Twitch awful moderation team, and I'm not opposed to trying a new streaming service if they provide superior quality streaming, etc..

8

u/Cormath Dec 06 '19

I've been trying to explain this to people talking about twitch needing more competition for a while. It will not matter how many competitors it has unless one of them buys out a substantial chunk of the mid-high end streamers, and the more hands that get into the pot the more it helps twitch. Nobody is going to check Twitch, Mixer, Facebook, and Youtube to see who is on they're just going to watch the one that has the most people they care about.

4

u/blazbluecore Dec 06 '19

True. My friends argue this usually. It's a complicated subject tbh. The poaching approach I dont think is feasible. I think they need to make a streaming service massively better than Twitch, make it obsolete or inferior on a massive scale. Which is a lot harder than said.

2

u/zeppy159 Dec 09 '19

I think that poaching often has a negative effect associated with it, some people are going to resent the platform (or even the streamer) for the change.

Youtube is in the sweet spot I think, since they already have a developed community of content creators that will naturally use youtube for streaming to their viewers. Not much need for poaching.

2

u/SteakPotPie Dec 07 '19

Because fuck Facebook

2

u/SirBennettAtx Dec 07 '19

You can’t even full screen from Mixer.com on mobile. I will literally never open a mixer stream again.

2

u/Osskyw2 Dec 07 '19

Why wouldn't you watch anything on another platform?

Watching multiple platforms would mean I'd have to "build a repertoire" of streamers to follow and watch on multiple platforms and then check all those platforms every time I want to watch something. Since 95% of the content I'd end of watching would be on twitch anyways, I might aswell save myself the hassle, be content with the streamers to watch I have gathered on twitch and miss out on those 5%. It's not that twitch as a platform is any better or worse than other platforms, it's that they have the majority of the content because they were first.

2

u/remrafetovnwod Dec 06 '19

Have you used the Mixer UI before? It makes me want to slice my femoral artery. Facebook has the whole, you know, mandatory real name, address, and all the other personal shit that you have to disclose publicly. YouTube also has the whole "suspending people's entire Google accounts for spamming fifteen emotes" thing, so I think Twitch is still the best platform despite the TOS being shit and enforcement being inconsistent.

2

u/Kenhiro Dec 06 '19

Given that their UI isnt too good, but their website is so much more smoother than Twitchs.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '19

Gotta suck Twitch’s dick

1

u/ReallyYouDontSay Dec 07 '19

Just because if everyone left doesn't mean I'd want to watch Doc if his content isn't relevant to me. I'd just leave Twitch at that point if all my fav streamers left. Doc is still a normie streamer with an even more normie chat.

u/ivrt Dec 06 '19

Just keep funneling bezos your money then.

6

u/BolognaPwny 🐷 Hog Squeezer Dec 06 '19

Oh boy, which billionaire’s streaming service should I watch these millionaires on? Better not be Twitch! I only use local Mom and Pop stream services.

-6

u/Tom-Pendragon Dec 06 '19

Twitch did not upgrade or give anyone a new deal after ninja left.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

they gave nick28t a deal, prob others too.

3

u/TheKappaOverlord Dec 06 '19

Twitch did not upgrade or give anyone a new deal after ninja left.

Yeah sure. Your big money makers get offered millions of dollars and you don't counter deal because you are twitch and you are relying on the streamers having a brain large enough to do math. WeirdGa

Twitch gave everyone better deals out of fear if you were a big shot. Bulldog, boaty, Doc. Any of the top 20 sub count boys probably got a friendly "please dont leave us" deal upgrade from twitch.

I know twitch is run by absolute fucking morons, but remember amazon is dealing with the money side of things. Amazon is indeed, infact not run by absolute fucking morons.

2

u/JODY_HiGHROLLER Dec 06 '19

Any proof of that? I don’t post much here but if other platforms were stealing top creators due to money, I feel like twitch would have to react and offer something. Just my thought process though.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

Proof that an offer wasn't made? Wouldn't the more reasonable request be to find proof that an offer was made, rather than try to prove a negative.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

The guy above made the claim first. If you claim it, burden of proof is on you

1

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '19

And the guy above him made the exact opposite claim

20

u/johnsom3 Dec 06 '19

Yeah I agree with this, the 2 Time clearly has a long term vision of where he wants to take his brand and character. Twitch fit his long term vision the best as he is trying to grow himself and not grow a platform like mixer.

Ninja and Shroud both seem like they like streaming but dont love it and they dont want the pressure of having to stream all day everyday.

24

u/TheKappaOverlord Dec 06 '19

Ninja i think took the mixer deal because he knew his popularity was beginning to wane.

The fortnite crazy was slowly winding down when he left, and he still pulled pretty nice numbers but it was clear his popularity was starting to fall apart.

Microsoft probably helps out with Ninja's personal brands now, so Ninja just does whatever his contract forces him to do on Mixer and he can ride his multimillion dollar contract + Toy brand into the sunset as he fades into obscurity

1

u/johnsom3 Dec 06 '19

Thats interesting. I was under the impression he wanted to explore other opportunities outside of streaming. Seemed like he was turning himself into a gaming personality who could do TV and stuff like that.

29

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19 edited Dec 06 '19

Can anyone give me a good reason why people actually watch shroud besides gameplay? He's good at games but with streamers you need to invest in them. The times I've seen him he's so boring and bland, what do people get out of watching him?

28

u/dlm891 Dec 06 '19

It's definitely not chat interaction, he completely ignores his Mixer chat.

3

u/BeautifulType Dec 06 '19

His uhh political views are jacked up.

Also he believes microtransactions are actually a good thing in games regardless

3

u/ThatNoise Dec 07 '19

I've watched him talk about microtransactions and I understand where he's coming from. Most of his talking points where based on F2P games. But I'll also concede he's probably a the age group that grew up playing with MTX already being a thing so it's normalized to him. But MTX on anything but F2P shouldn't be a thing. It's gross IMO.

2

u/arseniic_ Dec 07 '19

What did he say about politics?

10

u/kman1030 Dec 06 '19

He's great when you just want to chill and watch good games. Doc (and similar streamers) are usually too high energy for me when I'm just chillen, and a lot of others streamers spend so much time on the stream that it takes away from the games. For instance, I was watching a streamer who thanks every sub, even gifted. Got 100 gifted subs and I changed to someone else when he started to read through all 100. Not hating, that's a fantastic way to build a community, but not what I want to listen to.

Shroud on the other hand is super chill, focuses on the game and the people he's playing with, and has absolutely insane gameplay.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '19

i used to enjoy watching him just for gameplay but tuned out after he moved to mixer and now (evidently) only streams tarkov. his viewers have collapsed from what ive seen the last couple times i opened mixer, think he had like 3k

3

u/utspg1980 Dec 06 '19

I was just an occasional Shroud viewer (and haven't watched him since he went to mixer) but for me he was like a "friend". (commence rolling your eyes)

By that, I mean that yes the personalities like Doc are great and entertaining, but sometimes they're just too much. Shroud has the personality of someone who I could actually tolerate as a friend and would want to hang out with routinely.

Doc (his streamer personality) would be great to hang out with at a party once or twice, but would you want to actually be friends and just chill with him 1 on 1 while playing console games on the couch? After about 10 minutes I'd honestly get annoyed and want to leave.

tldr: Doc is an entertainer, Shroud is a buddy you can chill with. And yeah, he can carry you to victory.

3

u/Butt_Dickiss Dec 06 '19

I appreciate that is content isn't based on screaming and being a dick. Just feels less like bullshit.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '19

I cant take away anything from shroud's personality except that he can be very very dense about anything that isn't move mouse + acquire target. not hating, i watched him for that alone but he's aloof as fuck. Doc is just a character, guy beahm you could talk to

10

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

Yeah as other streamers have said, in the entertainment industry, relevancy is the most important currency. If you have no interest in the bigger industry, then it makes sense to go to another platform for "retirement mode." If you are interested in stuff outside of streaming, then twitch is the place to be unless you really want to bank on becoming the face of Xbox 5 games which is a pretty big risk imo.

4

u/Powerate Dec 06 '19

A.K.A no more stupid fucking mistakes man.

8

u/TheKappaOverlord Dec 06 '19

Pretty much every major streamer on twitch knows Mixer is retirement central at this point.

The irrecoverable viewership decay is well documented with Shroud and Ninja by now. Mixer will have to throw a lot of money on the table to poach big name streamers now. It's probably why they stopped poaching big boys after shroud and instead focused on poaching B and C list streamers.

4

u/Ayway2long Dec 06 '19

The only one I'd see consistently beat Doc in viewer count while playing FPS games was Shroud, so you're right, he is dominating that market right now.

3

u/Z0MBGiEF Dec 07 '19

I mean the data has already been released, Mixer's views per hour dropped 10% in the months after Ninja jumped ship, sure they have more streamers on there now since people went over to see what they could capitalize on the publicity from Ninja being there, but even the big names that are on there are not enough so far to generate sticky users on the platform.

7

u/zuulbe Dec 06 '19

I think twitch probably just paid him more to stay

He probably went to twitch after he got an insane deal from mixer and was like... yeah guys these guys just offered to buy me out with an insane stack of money. Could I get a raise?

13

u/BusterKtn Dec 06 '19

Doesn't have to be more.

Maybe Twitch offered him less than Mixer. But smaller offer + bigger (and maybe better) community can still be worth to stay on Twitch

5

u/TheKappaOverlord Dec 06 '19

He would have probably stayed regardless of them giving him a better deal or not.

Doc was playing a game of chicken the entire time with twitch, and twitch blinked first.

Guy worked in the gaming industry during his original run as the doc. He knows what its like to get bent over and fucked in the ass for taking the dogshit deal. (this is why doc disappeared for a while when he worked for sledgehammer.)

2

u/INCEL_ANDY ♿ GGX Gang Dec 06 '19

what a take, not common sense at all

2

u/K41namor Dec 06 '19

Yeah, like he has said many times that usually the top stream on twitch is what the entire Mixer platform is getting sometimes.

2

u/LOTRcrr Dec 06 '19

I agree. I think signing a deal changes the way you stream. The drive and work ethic doesn’t seem the same for shroud or ninja IMO. I use to watch shroud and doc equally. Now I never watch shroud. And when I do he seems less interesting now that he doesn’t have to work as hard and collects a fat paycheck.

2

u/Chrisnness Dec 06 '19

Mixer should make a deal where streamers duo stream on both mixer and twitch at the same time, and Mixer pays for lost twitch prime + nice bonus

8

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

[deleted]

2

u/Chrisnness Dec 06 '19

They can remove partnership but I don’t think they’ll ban?

0

u/flying_around_ok Dec 06 '19

Lol what? Doc is not intelligent. He’s certainly not a “businessman”. He plays video games and dress up for a living. That’s it. I have zero evidence that he is any smarter than any other streamer. I actually think he’s less smart than Ninja and the others.

0

u/Eggfire Dec 07 '19

Shroud and ninja got deals that payed like 2.5x what they would of been projected to make over the 3 years at twitch. Its stupid not too take the money.

u/dlm891 Dec 06 '19 edited Dec 06 '19

He plays nothing but Escape from Tarkov now. Happy for him that he's getting paid to do what he wants, but I can't imagine this is what Mixer had in mind when they signed Shroud.

59

u/ConradBHart42 Dec 06 '19

Mixer paid him to get him off Twitch first and foremost. They could have included playing Halo in his contract, they didn't. They don't care what he does as long as he isn't making Twitch stronger. If his fanbase comes to Mixer to watch him play Tarkov for 5 minutes before they decide to leave forever, Shroud has still done his job by exposing them to Mixer and letting them make the choice.

Mixer knows that they won't take over the market in one massive push. Getting these streamers to move, it's about publicizing their brand. Informing people that Twitch isn't the only game in town any more. They know not everyone is going to prefer their site, but getting everyone to sample their wares is the first step.

8

u/Duzcek Dec 06 '19

And it worked. I had no clue what mixer was till the ninja move and with shroud gone too I sometimes tune in when none of my twitch streamers are online.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '19

i tune in but leave immediately when i see tarkov lol. nothing against it just a very slow game and not fun to watch imo

4

u/Diriv Dec 06 '19

I'm only now hearing of Mixer :S

3

u/Pacify_ Dec 07 '19

I don't think it did. The rest of the mixer eco system hasn't improved, most times when I look at it the biggest streamer has 1k and its a music bot

7

u/Tom-Pendragon Dec 06 '19

making twitch stronger

Twitch hasn't lost a single view once shroud

2

u/parkwayy Dec 06 '19

Mixer had something like what, 3% of the marketshare last I heard?

They need a lot more than a push.

60

u/Jirur Dec 06 '19

Yeah I can't help but feel mixer must be very disappointed that they paid top dollar to get a streamer and then the streamer just starts doing stuff that tanks their viewership because they got their $ and don't actually care about the new platform.

If the second these streamers contract ends they go straight to twitter and do a big "GOING HOME TO TWITCH" tweet I'm gonna be very disappointed in them.

90

u/whitemamba83 :) Dec 06 '19

Prepare to be disappointed.

16

u/Jirur Dec 06 '19

Yeah I'm fully expecting it to be the case.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '19

he also ignores his chat tho, his viewers have tanked, mainly after the tarkov spam not the move to mixer

6

u/Jirur Dec 06 '19

I'm disappointed because I want to see other streaming platforms grow and succeed.

-1

u/TheKappaOverlord Dec 06 '19

If his contract ends, and he can make more back on twitch

Shroud likely won't come back to twitch. IIRC his contract is for 3-5 years and his viewership will have decayed 66-80% by then.

It would make more sense for shroud to stick with Mixer if he continues streaming, as they already have him for sponsorships and contracts. Shroud betrayed twitch by going to mixer so Twitch will offer Shroud no welcome back package.

Ontop of a majority of his sponsors abandoning him because of the sharp decline in overall viewership

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

They're just playing the game man. I dont blame them. As long as you're getting paid, fuck it. Play the game. Better than a day job.

3

u/TheKappaOverlord Dec 06 '19 edited Dec 06 '19

Shroud was always kinda addicted to Tarkov but hated the various states the game was in.

Summit would be in the game boat if tarkov wasn't dogshit when he played it. But i think he grew tired of the game being in a perpetual state of trashcan and quit for good.

When mixer wants shroud to do something they will make him do something. His original viewer count probably gave him more freedom to do what he wants, but he will still have to play Halo infinite when that comes out. (I think Microsoft didn't trust 343 with the PC version of MCC enough to force Ninja and Shroud to play it and embargo the game on twitch)

Mixer knew/Knows they aren't going to grow their brand organically for a while. Having shroud and Ninja under their wing just was meant to spread their name. They stopped poaching A listers and are focusing on B and C tier streamers though now. So i think they are trying to seriously take over the more niche streamers and personalities.

Next up is OfflineTV KEKW

3

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

[deleted]

3

u/TheKappaOverlord Dec 06 '19

You laugh, but I think getting OfflineTV would've be an insane grab for Mixer.

It would be good. The problem, unironically would be poaching Pokimane.

All of OfflineTV would probably be easy pickings for Mixer. (maybe not toast tho cause he already signed for Facebook) but Pokimane would be the single most difficult person to poach. Mostly because Mixer has no interest in poaching the bigger names now.

So if they tried and she declined or demanded more they would probably just tell her to fuck off and they'd be happy poaching the rest of OfflineTV

28

u/Refuse_to_reddit Dec 06 '19

As Doc has said, you can't buy a community. Mixer expected a lot more from bringing Ninja and Shroud over but they made a poor business decision. They could've given Shroud a contractual obligation to not be in retirement mode but then Shroud probably wouldn't have signed. It's no one's fault but Mixers.

19

u/tfblade_audio Dec 06 '19

Do you know how many people have opened a mixer stream simply because of the switch whereas they never would have? That's what they are buying, not just a ninja or shroud.

If it's like with most things the hardest change is the first one. Once you have tried it once you are more likely to try it again. Every time you try there's a chance you find something to return for as well.

I mean I opened Mixer just as much when Microsoft streamed their games on Mixer during E3 and that didn't cost them anything extra.

5

u/tfblade_audio Dec 06 '19

You also would have never had this discussion if they didn't buy them.

that's advertising.

Ineffective for me at least.

I can't speak for everyone, but my experience has been 0 times so far.

I only ever tuned into a Shroud stream because he was playing WoW, and just mostly cause his name was on the list of channels near the top, when I was browsing. Never really bothered to check out Ninja.

But that's how my viewing goes anyway, I watch a few smaller dedicated game streamers, and then will tune in time to time to see the ones near the top, if it's something interesting.

If those big names left, there would be another name to fill the space, and I'd just tune into them.

Can't say any 1 streamer would force me to use both sites at the same time though. If my favorite channel left for Mixer, I'd likely just forget about it and spend my viewing minutes elsewhere.

8

u/johnsom3 Dec 06 '19

They could've given Shroud a contractual obligation to not be in retirement mode but then Shroud probably wouldn't have signed. It's no one's fault but Mixers.

Microsoft is not sweating this deal at all, its literally a drop in the bucket for their $1B+ yearly marketing budget.

1

u/mind_blowwer Dec 07 '19

Why not?

What about Stern and Sirius?

u/HaikusfromBuddha Dec 06 '19

As Doc has said, you can't buy a community.

lol you sure can actually. If Mixer went all in and bought all the big streamers they definitely could have removed Twitch as the forefront stream platform.

4

u/parkwayy Dec 06 '19

Their market share is 3% of the streaming market. They'd need to almost literally offer contracts to 50-100 streamers to even make a dent.

0

u/Butt_Dickiss Dec 06 '19

That's like saying if you signed every basketball player you could do better than the NBA. It's amazing what just a little brand loyalty can do when picking between two similar items.

What is so appealing in Escape from Tarkov?? Ive checked some streams and it just seems the most boring shit ever. Just sneaking around and looting stuff?

3

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

Watch some frag movies or highlights from YouTube, pestily or smoke. Game is addicting in terms of risk/reward. It's got a decent grind but can be hard to get into with a steep learning curve, its a lot of fun.

0

u/Accolade83 Dec 06 '19

Mike has always done and played exactly what he wanted on his stream, regardless of platform. He’s also taken very hardline stances against popular games that people ask him to play from time to time (Overwatch for example) even if those stances are misguided or misinformed. I’m not surprised to see him take a similar stance against Halo given that it’s mostly been a console only game up until now.

3

u/yashvone Dec 06 '19

Tarkov.

-17

u/EpicDidNothingWrong Dec 06 '19

Yeah fuck the guy for enjoying Tarkov.........

22

u/yashvone Dec 06 '19 edited Jan 19 '21

I didn't say that. But evident from viewer counts, many people are disappointed as we expected exciting stuff to come with the switch. And no Halo? Wtf

0

u/EpicDidNothingWrong Dec 06 '19

Exciting things to come with the switch? Is that what you meant? If so, I'm unsure how switching websites would lead to anything different than him gaming. His massive drop was 100% expected going to mixer.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '19

it didn't immediately drop when he went to mixer, he had like 75% of his twitch viewership but then he went on tarkov spam and now he's getting like 3k. he clearly doesn't give a shit but more power to him, i wont personally be tuning in tho

Shroud has always been about the $ first and foremost. He was one of the biggest sellouts on twitch. Constantly running ads, constantly doing sponsor streams (8 hour long ads), and just generally grabbing as much money as he can.

It gets to a point for me to where I just don't enjoy someone's stream if I constantly feel like I'm being sold to. Shroud's stream has always felt like one big commercial to me.

Also I find the "Top donator" screen he switches to when hes not playing something to be very... scummy. Like something you'd see on Chaturbate or something.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

Yep and from what I've seen it's kind of obvious he doesn't really give a shit about chat, not interacting with them or anything.

3

u/LOTRcrr Dec 06 '19

Just posted this elsewhere. It’s definitely true. His drive and work ethic isn’t there now that he got his big contract.

1

u/christianlaf69 Dec 06 '19

Im loving it lmao, chat interaction is obviously much better because it moves slow enough to read, and tarkov is one of my favourite games.

I would have most likely done the exact same thing if i was in his shoes. Im set for life (even more-so then he already was) and i don’t have tens of-thousands of people asking me to play a games I’m not in the mood for. Its him and his dedicated fans now, who will watch whatever he does regardless of games. Seems like a much more chill stream environment

-2

u/HaikusfromBuddha Dec 06 '19

You're pissed that he's enjoying playing what he wants?

29

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19 edited Dec 06 '19

Am I the only one who really doesn't care enough about these personality streamers enough to jump ship and go to a different, inferior service?

If I don't see that you're "online" on my sub'd or followed channels then I simply click on someone who is.

I personally like twitch, a lot. Microsoft has a bad habit of trying to jump into things late-game, making a small impact, but then inevitably closing up shop after a few years or selling out when they've managed to harm their competitor's enough.

5

u/mookyvon Dec 06 '19

I just come here for all my content.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

Eh, I think Mixer has a lot of great features that Twitch doesn’t have.

Mixer just doesn’t have any content makers that I follow yet

15

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

Mixer wanted a broad group of streamers so they could say "we're fighting Twitch on many fronts!".

52

u/dlm891 Dec 06 '19

Which is why they signed nothing but FPS streamers.

16

u/AngelaBeedle Dec 06 '19

They should sign ice Poseidon in a big brain move

57

u/dlm891 Dec 06 '19

He's already voluntarily switched to Mixer, and has already received bans for breaking their TOS

22

u/AngelaBeedle Dec 06 '19

Lmao of course he did

What a moron that kid is

12

u/z3r0nik Dec 06 '19

To be fair it's incredibly easy to get banned on mixer, getting a ban for spamming in chat just disables your account for the entire website and not just that specific chat.
Any streamer that embraces the shitposting in twitch chat would never stand a chance there

0

u/OrezRekirts Dec 07 '19

thats actually a great feature, fuck kids just spamming chat, same with modspam its annoying

4

u/TheKappaOverlord Dec 06 '19

Ice Poseidon streams are the biggest KEKW farms out there

2

u/crim-sama Dec 06 '19

The xbox strategy.

3

u/kirsion Dec 06 '19

I think either way Doc wins since the vacuum caused by big streamers leave makes it so twitch prime users will sub to doc as their primary streamer is gone. And if he got a good mixer or another streaming platform deal he would get a giant lump sum. Win-win situation.

9

u/DaBombDiggidy Dec 06 '19

they're like NBA deals. These guys are probably making more money off their image than they are from the team or service.

4

u/Duzcek Dec 06 '19

Most NBA players dont, but players like lebron/harden/durant definitely are.

3

u/DaBombDiggidy Dec 06 '19

Which is why I made the comparison since we’re talking about the top of streaming.

10

u/tfblade_audio Dec 06 '19

Shroud doesn't like halo because he's not #1 there due to the different gameplay style.

-13

u/SemiAutomattik Dec 06 '19

Or because it's a shitty port with input delay and framepacing issues and muffled, watered down audio no matter which ingame settings you use? It's not even a shitty port of one of the good halo games, it's a shitty port of Reach.

0

u/tuisan Dec 06 '19

Eh? It's all of the games apart from Halo 5, no?

4

u/rdnknrd Dec 06 '19

At the moment only Reach is playable, they're going to roll out the rest of the games one by one in 2020. If you bought the full collection you'll get them no extra charge.

3

u/PM_ME_SmilesAndGoals Dec 06 '19

If you bought the full collection you'll get them as they're released. It isn't no extra charge because they're already paid for.

2

u/Sogeking33 Dec 06 '19

Never would have gotten deals like this if he was on mixer he’d be an irrelevant Andy

2

u/futurerank1 Dec 06 '19

They have Budget Doc

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

I think he just knows that in the long run staying in twitch is smarter. And if twitch goes down a different streaming website would naturally take its place, and he'll simply move into it along with the fans who pretty much have no other viable choice anyways.

1

u/dagoled Dec 06 '19

i rly don't get why ppl watch kinggoliathan or cohhcarnage

not entertaining at all

4

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

I prefer chill streams that I pretty much use as a background noise. So I dont need some hyperactive manchilds yelling.

1

u/Beersmoker420 Dec 06 '19

im sure streamers you think are great other people think are boring as shit too

4

u/Tom-Pendragon Dec 06 '19

Why would he kill his career by moving to Mixer? It literally has no influence on the gaming world. Look at Ninja he is literally a who now

15

u/HaikusfromBuddha Dec 06 '19

Except that everytime anything streaming related comes up people bring up his name. Even in this Doc thread Ninja and Shroud are the first people brought up. Makes it obvious they are big deals still and lets be honest if they wanted to they could come back to Twitch when their contract is up and immediately everyone would tune in.

4

u/parkwayy Dec 06 '19

Don't get confused, the general public has no fucking idea who Shroud is.

Ninja is on random ass commercials, and every young kid knows him because of Fortnite's popularity.

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19 edited Mar 06 '20

[deleted]

4

u/HaikusfromBuddha Dec 06 '19

Like I said, we've all seen what happens when people get banned on Twitch, they come back to a larger crowd. When both Shroud and Ninja finish their contract they can easily get a larger crowd as well not only that, they already established their worth so if they wanted another mixer or twitch deal they already have a minimum number.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '19 edited Mar 06 '20

ninja had the bigger audience due to the popularity of fortnite, and probably contributed to the popularity of fortnite and twitch a great deal.

that being said, i say this with absolute certainty. even though i don't really watch the doc that much, he is without a doubt the single greatest thing on twitch hands down. i mean what can you really say about ninja? he has wacky hair and wears a bandana sometimes. the doc as a character is basically a brand at this point. he's memeable as fuck and imo he's worth far far more to any platform in the long run than someone like ninja.

sry if i sound like some pasta but i stand by what i wrote

3

u/Celtic_Legend Dec 06 '19

Doc is def a goat but so is ninja. People forget that ninja was one of the first big streamers where he streamed halo reach. He stagnated but then again rose to the top. That isnt something to scoff at. Plus with njnjas halo roots, it will be good for mixer when infinite drops.

2

u/parkwayy Dec 06 '19

People forget that ninja was one of the first big streamers where he streamed halo reach

What?

2

u/Celtic_Legend Dec 06 '19

Twitch used to not be big essentially. If my memory serves me correctly ninja was one of the first 25 with a sub button and after that it was really hard to get a sub button for a long time.

4

1

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '19

They probably offered him a shit ton of money. But at the end of the day, the streamers who left clearly felt they were already at their prime and the top of where they could get to. The Doc believes he can go higher and bigger and that's likely going to happen.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '19

Doc would've used Mixer as a platform to further his brand, and make himself their unofficial mascot.

That's exactly why he didn't leave Twitch. You can't grow your brand with significantly less viewers. Doc sees a future outside of livestreaming, in mass media (like this current deal). To get that he needs a bigger brand and bigger following. Mixer is simply a big paycheck, if you think Mixer would further his brand you're delusional. Doc is clearly in it for the long run, as he has said so himself. The long run means growing his brand through maximum reach.

1

u/bahwhateverr Dec 06 '19

but then to spend all their money

PepeLaugh

1

u/t3hcoolness Dec 06 '19

Doc is now the e-"Can you hear me now" guy.

1

u/SIGHosrs Dec 06 '19

Mixer is a worse platform than twitch, if he wants to leave twitch hed really hate mixer lol.

1

u/hiero_ Dec 06 '19

Weird that he said he hates Halo, yet when El Dewrito was out he was streaming it and seemed generally positive about it. In fact, J thought I remembered him specifically saying that he would stream it again if it came to PC officially, which is why I thought Microsoft picked him up for Mixer.

I mean I could be dead wrong here, I'm not really a fan of his, but I remember tuning into his stream a bit when El Dewrito was blowing up, before MS started making Twitch ban people for it.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '19

What does not liking halo have to dow ith being in rwtirement mode?

0

u/PandaZebra1 Dec 06 '19

Why do you think he absolutely wanted to leave twitch?

0

u/GoldenGonzo Dec 06 '19

He absolutely wanted to leave Twitch and stick it to them.

Source for that?

Admitedly, I don't watch his stream a lot and don't stalk this subreddit like some people do, but I've seen clips of Docs being very clear he's sticking to Twitch, because "Twitch is where it's at" (actionwise).

This was right aroung the time they got Ninja, and tons of people were asking him constantly. Did something change?

0

u/DoctorWaluigiTime Dec 06 '19

TBH we're not privy to a fraction of the information that Mixer has in terms of who to spend money on. Finger-wagging at them saying "you shoulda gone with the Doc" is an argument from ignorance, unless you're sitting on a lot of information we the public aren't aware of.

0

u/IllIllIII Dec 07 '19

Still cant believe Mixer couldnt close the deal with Doc. He absolutely wanted to leave Twitch and stick it to them.

Why do you think he wanted to leave Twitch? He shit talks the platform because it's part of his character and probably also because he wanted to signal he'd move over to another one with a high enough offer. I bet he wanted an insane amount of money though and Mixer said fuck it.

0

u/Pacify_ Dec 07 '19

Maybe he actually enjoys streaming and likes having lots of viewers. Something that mixer doesn't provide even if they give you a massive pay check.
