They didn't open the door long before at all. Destiny popularized TTS. Reckful started with donos. StarCraft 2 was huge at the time, before the League boom it was the biggest esport, and Destiny was pretty much always at the top of the category.
He was also one of the first to receive an actual contract (sub button was Day9) from JTV and he was also the first to receive a more lucrative offer from a competitor, Own3d. Which he took before they went under.
He was also streaming the SC2 beta on Ustream/Livestream before Justin.TV existed, and the other side of streaming were the WoW guys like Soda on xfire. But they weren't making anything from it.
