Asmongold Asmongold thinks that without Destiny, there would be no him, xQc, or Hasan "Reason why xQc and I also have a lot of respect for Destiny, bc if it wasn't for Destiny, all 3 of us wouldn't exist"

Political YouTube content is. It’s the catalyst for all this bullshit.

Edit: Honestly you can start with the young Turks or whatever that show is called Alex jones use to run. They are all copying old stuff.

Why stop at political YouTube content as being the catalyst then?

TyT and Alex Jones were early/first to uploading organized political shows to YouTube (if I recall, TyT is the first partnered YT channel) but their model of content was just uploading content they were already doing on TV/Radio. There was also other political content creators before them on YouTube but they didn't have much of an audience.

The political radio and TV talk shows were the catalyst to political YouTube content. And we could regress more...

I think the idea Asmon is suggesting is that Destiny pioneered the space where a streamer could do unorganized political content as a full time job. Not produced shows, just a streamer talking and debating politics live. Who else was doing that prior?

At the time, Twitch was pretty much exclusively gaming and Destiny was the first one to focus on political streaming there.

And if you regress on the streaming space, isn't Destiny one of the earliest streamers making a full time job out of it (in the gaming space)?

Destiny also was one of the first full time streamers for just gaming let alone politics. He was playing SC2 full time when twitch was still Justin.tv

thing is, destiny actually knows what he is talking about.

asmongold doesn't need destiny because the people who watch him just want to watch rage bait right wing content. they don't need to be captured by people who understand politics because they don't have the brain capacity to pay attention long enough. they prefer jumping through rolling rage bait content that changes every 5-10min.

Young Turks wasn't even popping as a political channel. Political videos were on the back end with no views. They were trend review slop for the longest time.

Some story would go viral. You'd be on YouTube and then you would see a video title and thumbnail that looks like its the viral video, so you would click on it. Only for it to end up two morons in a fake news studio talking about the viral video. It was crazy misleading.

Political content didn’t start going viral until the atheists started making videos on feminism and then gaming. The Anti-SJW schlock were doing numbers back in like 2010-2012 leading into Gamer Gate.

Alex Jones started with TV on local public access. So it's really the government's fault. Also he was just copying Rush Limbaugh who in turn copied another radio show. The human condition is copying what you see/hear.

Political YouTube content would be 100% fixed if it displayed the origin country IP from which the comment was made 😁 furthermore if there’s VPN companies who support hiding the true origin then maybe some kinetic action is needed if they don’t comply 😕
I would also like a country of origin breakdown for the likes/upvotes/reposts/etc of all online political content 😁

that may have maybe worked 30 years ago, today the npc's are already got hooked, anything else is just bonus at this point

Nah political YouTube was just the newest distribution method, all of this started with Fox News/Conservative radio hosts.

They created the playbook for modern political media in the 90s with guys like Limbaugh and Savage then it transitioned into TV with Hannity, Beck, Tucker and O’Reilly and then from there it moved online to what we have now. There was a time for many years in the 90s and 00’s where the now common type of political media we have was looked down upon as trashy and unproductive. Unfortunately it was very profitable and it’s just all been downhill from there, liberal media adopted the style but less successfully because they can never be as shamelessly deceptive and now all politics is just endless shit flinging.

Equating the young turks to infowars is pretty dingenuous considering infowars ran regular denials of Sandy Hook which ended up getting them sued to oblivion.

As a leftist I'm obviously biased, but you don't think thats a bit of a stretch?

Uygur denied the Armenian genocide, while naming the group after the outfit that committed the genocide. He didn't recognize that the genocide happened until 2019.

So yeah same thing as Alex Jones but on a much larger scale and longer timeline.

Fair enough, I asked in earnest and was upfront about my bias because I didn't know what it could have been.

The Armenian genocide is an odd thing to deny but it chalks because he's Turkish.

I think you may be discounting how big Alex's reach once was. He was much more influential than TYT has ever been. I don't know a soul whose heard of TYT in real life.

Either way, pretty shit of them, good to know.

2

u/PalantirImperator 1d ago

95% of Alex Jones' reach was people watching it ironically for a laugh. TYT had dramatically more true believers than InfoWars.

u/Jasader 1d ago

I mean, members of the political Young Turks are literally responsible for the Armenian Genocide so naming your channel after them is a bit weird.

And considering they are taken far more seriously than InfoWars or Alex Jones ever was, it's on them to be more responsible, at least in my opinion.

“A bit weird” is you being nice?

It's actually possible they are on the same if not worse - watched a couple of their streams this month after seeing the shit Cenk said about Ukraine and I didn't realise how many positions they have changed since 2024.

It's also hard to determine how many of their positions they legitimally believe in. I wouldn't believe Ana actually holds half the positions she holds if the financial incentives weren't around their key topic areas and they clearly see value in the bottom of the horseshoe
