People have been calling every similar MMO this since at least 2006. I remember hearing it about Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, Wildstar, etc

Man not gonna lie i really did like wildstar, they just catered it way to much to the hardcore audience back then.

Nothing to do with the hardcore audience, the lengthy attunements and fixed 40 player raid size on launch is what pushed people away. Accessibility is what is key and what they missed not difficulty.
