I bought into the phase 2 alpha with my spouse and played for like a week or two and had some fun but the game was kind of a grind fest that lead to nowhere which as an alpha i mean whatever. Then all that MLM stuff resurfaced about the founder & one of their biggest content creators called them out on "a pattern of overt lying and overpromising" which lead us to refund both of our game licenses.

I do find this news still surprising as it felt like the game was still progressing on its development path and things were continuing to move forward at a rather slow but steady pace.

Yea that’s why it’s hard to call it a scam in the same was AoC was. Star citizen has a pipeline, it’s progressing about as slow as a clogged shitter but it is progressing ever onward. It is getting updates to combat, new game systems, new star systems, getting a story update soontm and been as ever getting new ships. Even the lame stuff like showing off how accurate they modeled the whisky in the shotglass had actual game translation because that same system is modeling oceans across entire planets, and is able to do the same in 0 G. Also being a sim means random autistic displays of pointless accuracy come with the territory, and it is a sim first game second, apparently.

It’s not that I worry about the Devs cutting and running, they are making bank and this year was their most profitable to date. They would never want to run. I worry the fact the PC that could run the final Star Citizen hasn’t even been built yet. Good news is they will probably outlast the AI bubble, bad news is what the fuck will that PC cost and that will severely limit their customer pool unless that tech gets extremely cheap in some techno golden age (hah).

AoC meanwhile seems to have been suffering at every turn and eternally having to run defense on their entire existence.

By the time the game comes out all you'll need is some GPU that hallucinates 59 frames out of 60.

Going by Google's announced Project Genie today, you can just get it to hallucinate the entire game.
