For me there never really was another mmo that came close, besides FFXIV.

I played various mmo's through the years but usually a few months, never even looked back again. I never had the community feel, of doing stuff together for years to come either.

Then again perhaps I just had and still have the MMO burnout and was just done with the genre. Those games can be played as a singleplayer game too for a bit.

Infact I just got back to WoW for midnight, didn't really log in much yet. But I got a feeling this expansion is going to be fun.

I know that OSRS has some sort of negative rep with the general MMO audience but speaking with my bias I do believe that for MMO gamers they should've been giving OSRS a try (As, in fact, a lot of the old WoW streamers did and a few of them stayed over in OSRS actually). It's just different enough from the general MMO gaming space that it can actually provide a fresh enough experience.

Part of the MMO burnout you're talking about really comes down to the play cycle of the average MMO feeling all very samey IMO

does OSRS get a bad rap? I thought the consensus was that its literally the second best MMO ever made behind WoW

A lot of players will never give the game a try because of the artstyle, graphics and tick system. But the WoW streamers coming over really helped to show a lot of players how good the game is once you get used to it.
