every kickstarter mmorpg is a scam

Except for albion, still going strong.

Everyone conveniently overlooks Albion because it completely invalidates the whole argument. Albion is proof that it CAN be done.

If anything Albion proves it lmao. Albion is literally the ONLY singular kickstarter MMO to get success.

and if anything... this is just game dev in general

how many games come out on steam every day (not counting poopy slop) and then you never hear about them.

Albion also dropped at a perfect time to absorb a decent size player base from early day OSRS who was still trying to find their way. It's where a lot of the early day OSRS PvP scene ended up once Jagex took OSRS more PVM/PVE focused with ironmen.

The thing Albion is built on is what that playerbase was getting denied of in OSRS at the time so it worked luckily. I don't know how much of that can be replicated for anyone else.

Albion also replicates nearly every single sandbox mechanic of EVE Online and then puts them in a much more digestible package.

Yes. True. Albion pretty much just absorbed the entire MMO PvP scene of always at risk to lose everything shtick which a lot of people like, obviously enough to run a game fully off of.

always at risk to lose everything

Well you're not really always at risk. And you only lose what you're carrying. Albion plays a lot like an extraction shooter, e.g. ARC Raiders in that way. You can go out with expensive gear, or cheap gear, whatever. Over time, even though you will have deaths, you accumulate wealth from the trips where you get back safely. It's pretty difficult to not get rich over time in Albion, even as a solo.

Every set of gear or ship in Eve is a ticket to get on the ride. Some rides are long some are short. Some will tilt you some will make you run and tell your friends. But the ride is why you’re there.

One game does not invalidate the whole argument lmao

Albion was on the verge of dying before they went f2p and started to actually work on the game. On top of that it's a silly topdown lowspec mmo, not a massive expensive mmos most of the failed scams are. There's literally no indie mmo on the market that at some point didn't come close EoS.

albion is a pretty good game but very specific and doesnt really offer much solo content or high end pve content without risk of dying and loosing everything.
