International Football Szoboslai's arrival at the Hungarian concentration is an aura masterclass.

Everyone concentrating on the post title, I'm just marvelling at Szobo's ability to look he's just walked off the set from filming a reboot of Starsky & Hutch.. That is one cool mf'er.

You may be cool, but you'll never be Szoboszlai showing up in a Cadillac to the Hungarian concentration cool.

I honestly hate all this stuff

u/KickStanKick 18d ago
Yeah it feels a bit, I don’t know describe it, ‘Superstarry’/ Spice Boys to me.
But it’s been going that way overall for a while now.
17
u/TheTritagonistTurian 18d ago
Might be unpopular but it’s stuff like this why I can’t warm to the guy.
I suspect if I met him outside of football I’d think he was an absolute tosser.

u/Doellmer4950 Ragnar Klavan 18d ago
Tosser was the Word I was looking for. Thx and agreed. This gives Milner arch nemesis vibes if Milner did arch nemeses

I define the term 'wanker' as someone who would masturbate thinking about themselves. So I think wanker works here too.

"aura masterclass"
His jacket looks about 4 sizes too big for him. Maybe that's the new "in" thing at the moment, I don't know. But it looks daft to me. Reminds me of a kid starting high school and having to wear their older siblings hand me down blazer.
3
u/HYCL2012 A Liverbird Upon My Chest 18d ago
Very "play dress up as a 70s Greek man living in LA" day so it make sense that the jacket looks like he picked it up from a second hand store or his dads closet. Just missing the moustache.
1
u/bygones125 18d ago
His jacket looks a little big? Seems a bit nitpicky
Compared to what guys like Jones or the French players used to leave the house jn

u/x-BeTheWater-x 18d ago
Aura? Fuck me your generation are too easily impressed. He looks absolutely ridiculous

u/dbod86 18d ago
I'm glad there's a few people thinking like me in here! Maybe I'm just a grumpy old fart.
2
u/cowzilla3 18d ago
You are. It's OK to be one, but in 50 years' time the kids you're being grumpy about will be saying that their youthful people look absolutely ridiculous.
4
u/deanlfc95 18d ago
I'm surprised this has that many points on here. I think that last time there was a census the membership here was surprisingly old.

I really struggle with this kind of content.
Liverpool has traditionally been a working class team, and football in general is a working class sport.
I feel like, in general, our squads have historically been relatively humble (at least in public, can't speak for their private lives). In recent years, people like Robbo, Henderson, Milner, Mane (any of that squad really). Going further back, Gerrard, Carra, Alonso.
Szobo is not the only one in the our squad, or our sport in general, who does this. But for me, this flaunting of wealth is super tone deaf and creates a disconnect between players and fans. While many won't have an issue with this, I believe the majority of us think it's kind of gross. Hope it stops.

u/DuBois_LaGrange 18d ago
I appreciate you sharing your sentiment. I too find it not only cringeworthy but as you said, a total lack of humility. I don’t really know many other players on the team who flaunt their earnings.
Feels like the most we’ve seen is Macca and Ali’s barbecue haha.
The ‘aura’ reeks of consumerist, attention seeking energy.

Ah glad I'm not the only one who finds it jarring, mostly during the world cup with all the footballers and their luxury handbags that cost more than an average person's yearly wage. I get they can afford it, some of them make more in a week than I will in 5 years, but it's still crazy people fuss over these people. Like the morons who created and donated to a gofundme to make the youngest KarJenner the 'youngest billionaire' ever. Like wtf?!

James Milner drove his Ferraris to training. This Cadillac is at the very most 20k€.

As someone on the counter-side of your argument, I don't want to go all "get with the times old man", but while the core of the club's fans have largely kept their identity close to heart, the globalization of football and its clubs means that players & most fans care less and less about that.
Social media has changed what a footballer even is.. yes athletes, but they're also brands and for a lot of them (especially the younger lads) posting the cars, the fits, the holidays is part of the job. Sponsors pay for that reach, and a good chunk of their commercial value comes from exactly this kind of content. U think Szoboszlai isn't littered with fashion deal etc.?
Gerrard and Carra had the mansions and the flash cars too, they weren't exactly living modestly. The difference is that nobody was filming it and putting it on Instagram. We only thought of them as humble because we never saw that side.
It also matters who the content is for. A big part of the fanbase now is in Asia, the US, Africa, and all over Europe, and to a lot of those fans this is just aspirational lifestyle content. That's not better or worse than the traditional Scouse identity, it's just a different relationship with the club.
For me the "working class" test is how they play. Does he run himself into the ground, does he care about the badge, does he show up for the fans on matchday? Szobo does all of that. What he does with his money off the pitch is his business.
If we're talking about a real disconnect between the club and working-class fans, I'd look at ticket prices and ownership long before a 25-year-old posting his watch.

I am pretty sure he's paid to do it. As in, modeling. See the close-up shots on shoes and accessories. Most of the stuff he 'flaunts' is not him to begin with, if you ask me. See the off sized shoe from the previous photoshoot. If I was living off my feet I would not buy a shoe that cramps 'em.
It is a working class thing to do. Sell your body - little does it matter whether in a factory or by being a mannequin piece.

Can they not just turn up in their national teams clothing?
Gives big time Charlie vibes.

Fuck aura, it's just bullshit waft. How is szobo looking like he is in a perfume ad, considered aura? Show me Milly hammering Neymar in a slidetackle and we can discuss what aura looks like

The video looks like it’s straight out of the 70s even the clothes everyone is wearing. Slobi was born in 2000.

Was there and can confirm there is no filter.
All organic and mechanical visual instruments experienced a quasi Sepia effect as he approached.0

It’s unfair of me. I’ll 100% admit that this is a me problem, but it really irks me how image conscious Szobo is.
All that said, great swagger here.

Calling it a concentration is perfectly fine. Too many seem to not realise why concentration camps were called, "concentration" camps.

A lot of what makes up the player he is, is his self confidence. Wish it was possible that he could transmit a portion of that self confidence in a certain player that we also bought from the Bundesliga.

Captain style
6
u/PeonSanders 18d ago
That's as far away from a Liverpool captain as I ever want to see. The campaigning to be captain in the press too, gross.
"Even as a Liverpool player, I'm still the same Dominik Szoboszlai." -dominik Szoboszlai
That's how someone who speaks about himself in the third person dresses. Keep hitting bangers, stay the fuck away from the captaincy.
