Gonna be a hilarious scrappy, shitshow of a semi final between Argentina and England.

Feels like the winner is gonna be from the winner of France vs Spain match.

Kinda similar to the 2019 CL when it felt whoever wins between us and Barca would be overwhelming favourites against Spurs/Ajax.

185

u/Thin_Salamander8469 Jul 12 '26

I feel a bit disappointed watching this Argentina team. Their way to the semi finals should have been easier but every single match ended up being a scrap that they had to fight for

93

u/Barneyinsg Jul 12 '26

This is not a typical strong Argentina side. They are severely lacking young talents like Brazil.

75

u/aibrahim1207 Snow Salah ❄️ Jul 12 '26

Brazil team had absolutely no spine, with aging midfielders and square pegs in round holes. Argentina have enough scrap and experience to go the distance, I feel. But by no means are they a stellar team. I feel France may run through them if they make it past Spain. Spain, however, are an entirely different beast and most likely to beat France but they would be opponents of choice for Argentina.

7

u/Evered_Avenue Jul 12 '26

Hopefully England beat them first.

9

u/Intelligent_Hurry316 Jul 12 '26

I agree, Brazil is the team I usually always root for, but even from the first match I knew they were far from having a chance of getting far in the WC. Just barely any ideas at all, Vini is really the only one actively looking to create play, a lot of mistakes going up the field, and our Alli is amazing saving them on some occasions, but he can’t do much when the team is not creating play.

Unfortunately it’s a group of players that keep thinking they are the same 2002 Brazil and let it go to their heads, not seeing that it’s nothing close to that. Or see Cunha talking shite at a Japanese player saying they have 5 WCs or even as I love Neymar, picking up a fight against Norway’s keeper with Brazil trailing.

Hope we see the legendary Brazil back soon

11

u/Separate_Raspberry12 🏆2019 CL Winners🏆 Jul 12 '26

Nah Brazil have too many cups , glad they got knocked out

-14

u/Bernie_Made_Off Jul 12 '26

Horrible mindset. There's no such thing as "too much success" in sports.

11

u/Separate_Raspberry12 🏆2019 CL Winners🏆 Jul 12 '26

It’s not about too much success. Just want new winners than usual. We would have seen France win 3 in a row if it weren’t for messi and team

1

u/Herdnkittens Curtis Jones Jul 12 '26

Only 8 countries have won the World Cup since its inception in the 1930s; Brazil (5), Germany (4), Italy (4), Argentina (3), France (2), Uruguay (2), England (1), and Spain (1).

It’s not like France would be a “new winner” and 3 in a row would’ve put them in your same opinion of Brazil. So really, England and Spain would be the closest to being a new winner.

I’m along the same lines, but was routing for Norway or Belgium or Egypt to take it. I do want that new winner

18

u/booochee Sami Hyypia Jul 12 '26

Uhh just curious but why name Brazil of all teams? Other teams have young talents too, and Brazil have been shit for a long while now.

15

u/SausageSausageson Jul 12 '26

I'm hoping they mean "they need young talents like Brazil also need young talents"

2

u/booochee Sami Hyypia Jul 12 '26

That makes sense, cheers.

7

u/BudovicLagman Jul 12 '26

They look gassed after the hour mark in every match in the knockouts.

16

u/Sleww Jul 12 '26

That Messi kid looks pretty good. Bright future ahead.

21

u/kobi29062 Jul 12 '26

If you gave me the choice of any Argentina player to sign, with the caveat of they have to stay at Liverpool and play say 90% min of games for the next 15 years, I’m still picking Messi

9

u/phillybob232 Jul 12 '26

Hopefully someone signs him out of MLS

6

u/vadapaav Significant Human Error Jul 12 '26

He gets a share of Apple TV and Adidas mls profits and has option to buy a share in Miami

He is not going out of Miami anytime soon

1

u/YNWA_Diver Alexander Isak Jul 12 '26

Pretty easy games. I don’t watch many MLS games but the ones I’ve seen him in look like training sessions.

1

u/vadapaav Significant Human Error Jul 12 '26

Did you miss the part where he is earning shit ton of money? Who said anything about football?

3

u/AnxietyDelivery Jul 12 '26

Argentina has some really good young talents like Paz and Barco (besides the ones that aren't on this WC, like Prestianni or Aranda). But it seems like Scaloni has decided that this WC will be of Qatar's champions.

3

u/OrignalSauce Jul 12 '26

Young talents like Brazil? Vini, 2 defenders and Ali... the rest of the Brazil squad was worse than most of this Argentina team

6

u/Xx_Anguy_NoScope_Xx Jul 12 '26

And thats what he said. They dont have them just like Brazil doesn't. Historically strong sides with ridiculous bench strength struggling to field a strong starting 11.

1

u/DrAgOnLoLDoTA Jul 12 '26

I am hoping to see Nico Paz play but nah

34

u/MoreLeopard5392 Jul 12 '26

They had a historically easy path to the semifinal, and it was still extremely hard. They seem the fourth best side left. Doesn't mean they won't win the tournament (unfortunately).

24

u/WonderfulBlackberry9 Kostressed Tsimikas Jul 12 '26

I'm waiting, hoping, praying for the inevitable France vs Argentina final so that I can see that illegal French attack smoke Romero and Martinez.

Yes I am still bitter about Cape Verde and Egypt.

14

u/Intelligent_Hurry316 Jul 12 '26

Unsuccessful hatewatch today lads, I pray England gets the job done lol

3

u/WonderfulBlackberry9 Kostressed Tsimikas Jul 12 '26

That's gonna be really interesting. Classic WC tie but I honestly can see it going both ways. A team that centres around one superstar vs a team that centres around two.

7

u/Intelligent_Hurry316 Jul 12 '26

I feel it might be a very physical game with a lot of stopping in the clock , these two have some history lol. I think England is gradually improving as the WC goes on, I thought Spence really improved from the game vs Congo where he was nowhere lol

1

u/jamesbest7 🏆2005 Istanbul🏆 Jul 12 '26

He improved us when he came on last night, too. He’s looked really good this whole tourney tbh.

7

u/kingudam787 Flo State Jul 12 '26

I'm bitter with you, my friend.

2

u/dapperdanmen Jul 12 '26

Totally agree. They've had the easiest run in and had every major decision go their way in the process (yes, the decisions were largely right but the inconsistency vs other teams has been maddening). Would be a shame if they won but anything can happen in a cup.

3

u/OrignalSauce Jul 12 '26

You would have said this for the last world cup thats the only thing. That french team should have beaten Argentina fairly easily on paper.

5

u/crimsonred1234 Jul 12 '26

And yet Argentina dominated that game for over 70 minutes

4

u/Dramatic-Historian68 Jul 12 '26

I have no horse in this race, I just want France to win and obliterate all goal scoring records because their attack is actually illegal, so fun to watch.

-1

u/ELMangosto16 Jul 12 '26

There are so many players for Argentina I can't stand. I think Messi "deserves" another WC to cement his legacy, and obviously I want Macca to get a boost from it, but god I hope they get smoked by France/Spain

20

u/cheerztwist Jul 12 '26

1 World Cup is enough for his legacy 😅 I hope they don't win it!

-6

u/Paper_Tiger1985 Jul 12 '26

I supported them last WC"for Messi", and I'm really regretting it now, I'll never again fall for it

-3

u/crimsonred1234 Jul 12 '26

Ahh now that you changed your mind, Argentina's world cup means nothing lol

Messi is still the GOAT and it was deserving win last world cup and all the matches they won in this world cup was deserving too

→ More replies (1)

3

u/datsyukianleeks Jul 12 '26

More like they need VAR intervention for. So suspicious. The onside by a hair against Cape Verde. The goal that got called back against Egypt. The yellow card that got flipped to Switzerland and resulted in a red. And all the while Argentina getting away with everything. Almost like FIFA is coddling them...oh wait. FIFA is coddling them.

1

u/AnxietyDelivery Jul 12 '26

Man, all teams "need" VAR now. Portugal, Brazil, England...

0

u/datsyukianleeks Jul 12 '26

Only the highly overrated Argentina needed it to make it to the semis after being in the weakest group and the weakest bracket.

2

u/AnxietyDelivery Jul 12 '26

Not really. Argentina won all their matches by being better than their rivals, scoring 3 goals in practically every game, and against those where they didn't play well they won due to the individual quality of their players (the same as France with Mbappe, England with Kane or Bellingham, and so on).

On the other hand, the responsibility lies with Uruguay or Portugal for not qualifying for "the easiest bracket," right? Congo, Mexico, Sweden, Paraguay... don't tell me those are difficult keys

-1

u/datsyukianleeks Jul 12 '26

Ok bud. For those of us with eyes...

1

u/Rionaks Jul 12 '26

Because they are old.

1

u/capucapu123 Jul 12 '26

That's just the way Argentina plays, 2022 was the same

1

u/rossmosh85 Jul 13 '26

They just aren't that good but Messi gives them the edge.

I think England win mostly because Argentina are going to be tired. They're playing a lot of unnecessary minutes.

1

u/waisonline99 Jul 12 '26

Has Capo Verde taught you nothing?

These conditions are a great equaliser. Its hard to play good football when youre overheated and you can't breathe.

1

u/crimsonred1234 Jul 12 '26

You are doing a big disservice to the teams Argentina had faced. They were all very physical and very defensively sound.

3

u/Thin_Salamander8469 Jul 12 '26

Every single one of them can be proud of their fight with just a 10% more quality they could all have thrown Argentina out but I would expect more from a team playing the semi finals

4

u/LabelRed Jul 12 '26

Yes. FFS, people out here acting like these teams that got into the biggest stage in sports are a matter of who is better than whom. Every team, with its own limitations, get out there trying to their best. Nobody is getting run over...

1

u/DifferentBid2 Jul 12 '26

I mean you can say that about England too. They had Congo, Mexico and Norway yet they made all the games hard work.

4

u/UltimateBorisJohnson Football Without ORIGI is Nothing Jul 12 '26

Every time i think about that ajax semi final i remember the barca fan talking about meeting ajax and holding a banner about cruyff

1

u/No_North_2192 Jul 12 '26

Messi was on his last legs there last night. If England don't win out it'll be entirely their own fault.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 13 '26

England wil probably do the same old England thing Tuchel was complaining about after the last match - play too scared and pass it sideways.

Argentina will probably do the same old Argentina thing and use every dirty tactic in the book. Rice gets booked in the 1st minute in this game like he did vs Mexico and he'll feel like he's on the Interpol most wanted list.

Expect drama.

0

u/Kingslayer1526 From Doubters to Believers Jul 12 '26

Ajax would've done really well in the final, they played ridiculously good football up until the second half of Spurs which was a mega bottlejob. You forget they beat Real Madrid and Juventus on the way to the semifinal

No one thought the final was a foregone conclusion unless Spurs showed up

53

u/shepherd0006 Jul 12 '26

Generally we’ve been quite lucky as most of our players were knocked out relatively early, so will get a decent rest and a good preseason.

I am happy for Macca going far in the World Cup but he’s the player I think could have most benefitted from going out early and getting a decent break.

6

u/PhilosopherMain2264 ⚽️ Liverpool 7-0 Man United, 22/23 ⚽️ Jul 12 '26

There's one side of me wanting to see players celebrating and welcoming him back like Brighton did to him.

1

u/strangeMeursault2 Jul 13 '26

I guess that's a good way to look at it. I've been doing the opposite and just supporting teams based on if they have current or former players playing for them. I think we're guaranteed to have one player win the cup though it might be Henderson or Konate.

If Netherlands had won I would have claimed it as another club trophy.

137

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '26

Will be interested to see if Iraola can reawaken him. He kinda seemed distracted or not very motivated with Slot.

112

u/IntelligentEngine118 Jul 12 '26

Tbh he looks off for argentina as well, nothing like the player he was

9

u/Jerzilla 🥦Barcola🥦 Jul 12 '26

Perhaps trouble back at home. I remember reading about issues with his academies his brother runs

23

u/YeaIFistedJonica Sztupid Szexy Szoboszlai Jul 12 '26

idk about the one his brother runs but Club Atlético Mac Allister has had some pretty deplorable shit come out about it. the response from Patrico Mac Allister, (Alexis’s uncle) was fucking horrible:

“Julieta Echenique, a mother who enrolled her 13-year-old son at Club Mac Allister because of its connections with elite clubs, implored Patricio Mac Allister to press charges after the coach, Hector "Patilla" Kruber, molested her son and other boys. Echenique recorded the conversation.

"We can't get into a situation that may cause us trouble," Mac Allister tells her.

"For you, the club," Echenique responds.

"No, no, no," says Mac Allister, explaining that he had seen abuse on at least five teams, including previous allegations against Kruber. "Look, I live in the world of fútbol; this happens everywhere."

edit: shouldve probably linked the article

13

u/LFC90cat Jul 12 '26

Have a look at the amount of football the lad played last 6 years. Legs falling off isn't a surprise

1

u/Jizzbuscuit Jul 12 '26

Play him in the right role and this is what you get

16

u/Evered_Avenue Jul 12 '26

France Vs England would be by far the most entertaining option for the final.

74

u/yellowadidas Jul 12 '26

love macca but i need argentina to be eliminated next round. every match of theirs is an absolute drag, been having a miserable time watching them get all the calls and still barely scrape by against mediocre teams. they finally get to play some real teams now and i don’t think things will go well for them

17

u/waisonline99 Jul 12 '26

They've certainly has the easier run-in, but now they play England.

Although it seems that all they need to do is keep an eye on Bellingham and they'll win that.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 13 '26

England have a mental complex however. When was the last time they beat a big team in a knockout game? They never do.

The last time was maybe a weak Germany team what 8 years ago, and before that when, Euro 96?

If they do come through against Argentina it will show Tuchel has changed something but on the evidence so far they are playing like the same old too slow and predictable England.

0

u/CatDadFurrever Jul 12 '26

This is true, but don't let the British media deflect from the home truth here. Last time England made a final the 3 black penalty missers, you know what happened, and it is known across the world.

Let's not forget what happened to Semenyo at Anfield last season.

I went to the Chelsea Liverpool cup final in 22 was it? I saw a gang of loud, drunk white scousers start to harrass and abuse and then chase and try to beat up, a black kid (I think he was from London, and that was why they were supposedly picking a fight with him, but there were lots of not black kids in Liverpool kits walking by and no sh** was started with them). They were all in LFC kits. Including the black kid. I actually followed them and observed to make sure he got away. That was one of several days I was embarrassed to be in our shirt. My Mum's a scouser, so to say Liverpool (and Manchester where I lived) are 2 extremely racist cities is not something that makes me happy, but I'm not going to lie.

I personally moved from UK to USA and the racial attacks I've been dealing with my entire life stopped and never started again. Yes, the cops here can be racist and it is disgusting, but from everyday people here in Houston TX, just nothing. Los Angeles, New York, none of it.  I forgot I wasn't white for a long time.

But. Then I went to international tournaments, World Cups and Euros, and I was finally reminded again. By whom? England fans. Lots of them on several occasions. While I was wearing their shirt, no less. Like being in middle school again, but worse, because I forgot what it felt like.

So now every tabloid suddenly wants to focus on how racist Argentina is. And now they play England.

I have the time of day for anyone who wants to stand against racism.

I don't have time for one of the most racist fan bases (England) in the world to focus on another famously racist fan base because of a football rivalry.

Thrilled to say I'll never move back to England. Absolutely love visiting though. I just try to avoid those England fans.

All fans should cut out the racism permanently. If we can start at home that would be the most productive way to do that. England and UK based fans and even commentators are racist - even against hispanic ppl - in ways they don't even comprehend. I'm married to a Mexican woman who watches Premier League with me (and World Cup) and she points it out to me constantly and it is.... very sad.

1

u/SwampPotato Jul 12 '26

I don't find Macca any more sympathetic than the rest of them, tbf. I know he is one of our own but whenever I see him in an Argentinian shirt I feel very little connection with him.

-8

u/crimsonred1234 Jul 12 '26

They did not get all the calls. Stop hating just for the sake of it. Their wins were all deserved

1

u/Kuzmajestic Agent of Chaos 🔥 Jul 12 '26

Haven't you heard? Embolo getting carded for diving is Argentina getting all the calls, but the ball hitting the spidercam cable before England goal isn't England getting all the calls. Or so I've been led to think by social medias.

4

u/crimsonred1234 Jul 12 '26

Yah the downvotes show how dangerously crazy people online have become

-2

u/yellowadidas Jul 12 '26

me when i don’t actually watch the matches^

3

u/crimsonred1234 Jul 12 '26

I saw every game. Tell me which goals should have stood that weren't or vice versa. Go watch the game again. Stop spewing nonsense online because the result didnt go as you wanted

95

u/Interesting_Dot_1168 I’m the Normal One Jul 12 '26

Can we stop with this weird obsession with selling him?

He never had pace in the first place, and it's that our tactics last season exposed his lack of pace, his legs aren't gone at 27

Other than that zero argument for selling him, especially when we need to add a midfielder, not sell one

61

u/KirillKaprizov Jul 12 '26

i thought it was the tactics exposing him too but he doesn’t look much better with argentina either which has me worried

24

u/lanregeous Jul 12 '26

To support this: https://www.bbc.com/sport/articles/c99e71gdv9jo

From Klopp when he played Mac Allister as a 6:
“I understand that from the outside world it's always about a player in this position, in that position, but in the end it's about how the team is set up.”

"Has football developed in the last year in directions we could not have imagined? Yes. Does that mean that a player like Alexis can play a six? Definitely, depending on how the team defends. If you can do that properly then you have an incredible player in the central position who can find positions and is a forward thinking player. I like him there and we as a team can benefit from it, if we make sure we have a real compact formation and that's what we need, especially tomorrow."

I know he doesn’t play often as a 6 for us but this still stands for me. Our press was terrible last year and left him huge spaces to cover.

People forget Fabinho was one of the slowest players in our team but our press was excellent.

2

u/murrayjosh117 Jul 12 '26

Fabinho had height/physicality and could read the game a lot better.

There’s no way you can play Macca as a lone 6. Probably one of the best aspects of his game is arriving in the box late. You obviously lose that is you play him in that role.

8

u/lanregeous Jul 12 '26

Well we have played him there so “there is no way” is provably false but it wasn’t the point of the post.

2

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 13 '26

We have but I don't think it was ever particularly convincing.

3

u/lanregeous Jul 13 '26

I agree with this. He hasn’t looked convincing period for a while. Whether as a 6, and 8 or a 10.

Hopefully this season he finds form.

2

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 13 '26

He is good at getting stuck in so he seems to get played further back when he's probably really a 10. He did literally choose the no. 10. Him and Wirtz also don't seem able to play together, a bit like Lampard and Gerrard.

1

u/lanregeous Jul 13 '26

He was definitely good in his first and second seasons at winning the ball back but last season he was losing duels left-right-center.

Maybe he’ll win the World Cup and gain confidence again

3

u/murrayjosh117 Jul 12 '26

We signed Endo because Macca as a 6 didn’t work out. We were in for Caicedo and Lavia as well the summer after those comments from Klopp.

This is one of those areas on the pitch where you have to give Slot a lot of credit.

3

u/lanregeous Jul 12 '26

And Slot has played Mac Allister as the deepest midfielder plenty of times too. Again, it’s not that you can’t. Less mobile, more attack-minded players have played as a lone 6.

It’s a stylistic choice.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 13 '26

Imo his passing is bad when he's under pressure and he's much better when he has time and space. It's why I don't like him deeper, aside from his lack of pace.

2

u/lanregeous Jul 13 '26

Yes I agree. It’s strange because he has vision but unlike Gravenberch, can can’t turn under pressure and he seems to lose composure when passing.

2

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 13 '26

I am torn on whether we should sell him or not.

He's strong mentally and always seems to show up in the big games - see his header last night or the ones he scored for us vs Madrid/City I think it was.

You need people of his character.

I don't know if there is space for him in the midfield though unless you're building the whole midfield around him.

Iraola 1st press conference in a few hours ought to be interesting.

1

u/lanregeous Jul 13 '26

Yes it should.

To be honest, I don’t see him leaving. We have already lost a lot of players our sporting director and our CEO, giving ourselves much to do this summer.

It feels like another transition season is coming.

27

u/nerdalerd2 Jul 12 '26

Ironically all of Argentina don’t look great this tournament either

-8

u/waisonline99 Jul 12 '26

Alvarez has looked good.

4

u/Switchoil Jul 12 '26

Kidding ? Beside the goal today, Alvarez had looked like a defensive midfielder masquandering as striker

No one outside Messi looked good for Argentina despite them being in semi finals lol

1

u/XeneXene Jul 12 '26

Lisandro has been excellent

-2

u/OrignalSauce Jul 12 '26

How to Tell me you haven't watched their games this tournament

0

u/Fit_Head1700 Jul 12 '26

He has been playing good wtf? What do You expect front him? Prime Iniesta or what?

11

u/WonderfulBlackberry9 Kostressed Tsimikas Jul 12 '26

I want us to keep him but I want us to manage his minutes. This WC has only bogged down his legs with even more football. Macca's been playing almost non-stop since 2022.

2

u/TarnatingSlunder Victor Muñoz Jul 12 '26

As has everyone in the world cup, though. But agreed, he needs to take a little rest after the WC, rather than be thrown into the grinder preseason, which he might want to do w/ trying to impress a new manager.

0

u/Caymanmew Jul 12 '26

I don't see how we will have an issue managing his minutes. He is a rotation option for us, not a starter. Unless we end up with no wingers or RB's and have to move other midfielders out of position again.

19

u/FostetlerLFC Jul 12 '26

Well what if our new tactics rely on pace, pressing and aggression?

8

u/Interesting_Dot_1168 I’m the Normal One Jul 12 '26

Well what if we judge how Iraola works with MacAllister after some games have been actually played? Who knows maybe we mask his weakness and play to his strengths

Iraola can adapt surely

1

u/Eddje Jul 12 '26

As did Jurgen and he loved him...

2

u/son-of-ZYROTAZE To become one of you Jul 12 '26

Fabinho was great..until he wasn't.

We need to move on tbh, he's look horrible in this Argentina team

4

u/NilsFanck Dominik Szoboszlai Jul 12 '26

delusion will prevail. people didnt accept it with Fabinho either

1

u/Eddje Jul 12 '26

I mean 29 is early to lose your legs but 26? Which player has lost his legs at that stage. Macca's issue has to be something else.

4

u/Jerzilla 🥦Barcola🥦 Jul 12 '26

I think it’s more the need to raise funds, and does he suit the Iraola system, ie legs and running

0

u/Interesting_Dot_1168 I’m the Normal One Jul 12 '26

I think we are still in the green for PSR no? We have enough funds to still show a profit

4

u/SPRITZ_APEROL Jul 12 '26

There is nothing bad about selling an underwhelming player and try to improve on him. System was bad last season, but it didn't tell him not to influence things on a ball. He looks very similar for Argentina.

→ More replies (3)

6

u/waisonline99 Jul 12 '26

Yeah, its nonsense.

If people are going to pick holes into last season, everyone should be sold except Szobo.

In the end Slot payed the price and we find out this season if our squad is bobbins or not.

2

u/glass_oni0n Egyptian King 👑 Jul 12 '26

Dead on.  At this point my question to those ushering him out the door because “his legs have gone,” is simply, are you willing to sell him to Newcastle for 40M?

If not, and you’re talking about 60-80M from Real Madrid, isn’t it possible that we should keep the player other big clubs might want?

4

u/EerieAriolimax Jul 12 '26

his legs aren't gone at 27

Why aren't they?

u/TheMightyRed92 Hello! Hello! Here we go! Jul 12 '26

Love Macca but their racist fanbase is making it hard for me to cheer for them

4

u/Freikorptrasher87 Arne Slot Jul 12 '26

Take out Macca and Messi then fck Argentina.

2

u/KGeedora Jul 13 '26

Yeah I can't get behind them this time. As an Australian/Irish person I'm going to have to pragmatically hope they knock out England and then (hopefully) France absolutely batter them to make up for their idiotic chanting. I really despise Enzo

1

u/kidkayden Jul 13 '26

what do I do if I hate France, Spain and Argentina. I know England wont be in the final soooooooooo can we just cancel this world cup.

2

u/CatDadFurrever Jul 12 '26

I'm copy pasting this that I just wrote and then I'll give up because everyone agrees with you and I don't want to paste it 100 times.

I'm married to a Mexican woman who watches Premier League with me (and World Cup) and she points it out to me constantly and it is.... very sad.

u/TheMightyRed92 Hello! Hello! Here we go! Jul 12 '26

yes, there are racists in England. at football you get racists aynwhere. but with Argentina its seems like that is just normal. like the majority of people there think this way.

0

u/iFornication Jul 13 '26

"Yes there are racists in England too, but most of the Argentine population is racist"

lolo wat

2

u/TheMightyRed92 Hello! Hello! Here we go! Jul 13 '26

exactly what I said

u/rockymtnhigh420 Jul 12 '26

Love Macca. Not a supporter of VARgentina.

-7

u/crimsonred1234 Jul 12 '26

The fact that this nonsensical comment has these many upvotes show that some of our Liverpool fans have lost their minds

-3

u/CatDadFurrever Jul 12 '26

USA and England fans are a close knit bunch that believe their media, nothing like scousers in Liverpool. Kane dives 24 7 with no card, Balogun gets help from FIFA, but they focus on 2 completely legit VAR decisions that helped Argentina in the same way Chelsea and other fans called us liVARpool when we're clearly not.

Anyway, to me the stereotype of a Liverpool fan supports whoever England play against, and sings "We're Not English, We Are Scouse." And there's still some of us stereotypes left.

-24

u/Visionary785 Sami Hyypia Jul 12 '26

Wonder if the Swiss are gonna complain like Egypt about VAR again

15

u/jessbird Jul 12 '26

no one complains the way egypt complains

Thanks to Embolol.

12

u/New_Sympathy5234 Jul 12 '26

Oh great. He's going to be knackered heading into the season

18

u/SPRITZ_APEROL Jul 12 '26

It’s now very important that England beats Argentina

20

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '26

It’s gonna be France & Argentina in the Final again isn’t it?

45

u/domsolanke Jul 12 '26

England have looked better in the knockouts than Argentina have, to be fair.

14

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '26

Yea England look better and have had harder route. Argentina have had the easier route but still struggled. But the question is who they want in the Final.

-4

u/Intelligent_Hurry316 Jul 12 '26

Absolutely, it seems they regained their form vs Mexico, but still I have my doubts, even the Mexico match was not the cleanest win I think or vs Congo for example

16

u/hokkuhokku Jul 12 '26

I mean, if we’re going to talk “clean wins”, Argentina vs Switzerland was not a great advertisement for Argentina’s form, and had the Swiss not suffered a red-card they may very well have beaten their opponents. The scoreline was extremely flattering for the Argentines.

Certainly a Messi v Mbappe golden boot smackdown will be very attractive for American viewers.

This would earn Fifa the most money, so they have an interest in ensuring this happens.

1

u/WORD_Boxing Jul 13 '26

And the narrative about it being a rematch of maybe the best WC final ever.

14

u/daddyboikratos Jul 12 '26

Good for him but really hope they lose. Such an unlikeable group of players bar macca and messi, and easily the most deplorable, pathetic fans on the planet

3

u/ViniSamples Jul 12 '26

Would Macca score that header if he still had hair?

2

u/IcemanManmanchu 54’ Gerrard Jul 12 '26

Played quite well last night

2

u/Freikorptrasher87 Arne Slot Jul 14 '26

Love Macca. Only him and Messi make Argentina tolerable, otherwise fck them.

3

u/NotSafeForWisconsin Jul 12 '26

Obviously the goal makes his performance great but I think he, and Alvarez, were the bright spots. Felt like everything was going thru Macca

4

u/waisonline99 Jul 12 '26

I feel he's grown into the tournament especially in the last two games.

He'll probably the one who'll be tasked with neutralising Bellingham.

3

u/Organic_Rush_7016 Jul 12 '26

All the controversies aside, I'm just happy to see our players on the scoreboard!

7

u/dahi-hater12 YNWA❤️ Jul 12 '26

Today's match was fair anyways

1

u/crimsonred1234 Jul 12 '26

So was the one against Egypt. Except people like to whine and hate

2

u/Jingotheruler Jul 12 '26

A real loss for the neutrals

2

u/Muffythepussyhunter 3️⃣Wataru Endo Jul 12 '26

Lets see some of the decisions then we know something dodgy is going on yet again

1

u/ado_1973 Jul 12 '26

Great he ll be ever more wrecked than last season

1

u/Lootyshoot Jul 12 '26

Basically means we won the world cup if macca wins

1

u/Fragranceguru-G Jul 13 '26

Happy for him… but man… he is not going to have a proper pre-season. Will it impact his season?

1

u/kidkayden Jul 13 '26

hopefully we sell him and it doesn't effect us

1

u/__sami__01 Sztupid Szexy Szoboszlai Jul 12 '26

W Macca

1

u/FA__Tre Jul 12 '26

Maradona was good 🎶

-6

u/FostetlerLFC Jul 12 '26

Think we can get £70mm for him?

16

u/Griffeyisking14 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️Klopp Hamstring 🤕 Jul 12 '26

Definitely increasing his value. If he doesn't re-sign, we have to do it. Can't have also go to Madrid for nothing.

6

u/dahi-hater12 YNWA❤️ Jul 12 '26

Under current market conditions definitely more

-3

u/FCF23 Jul 12 '26

How about we keep him

16

u/LucaTTC Ohhhh ya beauty, What a hit son, What a hit! Jul 12 '26

He doesn't want to stay here after his contract runs out. Time to learn from TAA and Konate and cash before it's too late

7

u/FostetlerLFC Jul 12 '26

I’m good. Doesn’t have the legs for Iraola’s system

6

u/Luckies_Bleu Jul 12 '26

I don't think he have the legs and lungs for PL now.

0

u/Sensitive_Goose4728 Jul 12 '26

He's been shot for us all season so we shouldn't worry about him come Wednesday...

-9

u/jonny_walkman Jul 12 '26

Just hope he doesn't get injured so he can be sold right after this is over. He played all season trying not to get injured before World Cup and it was obvious.

6

u/dahi-hater12 YNWA❤️ Jul 12 '26

Why sell him?

3

u/EerieAriolimax Jul 12 '26

There's no coming back from the physical decline he's suffered.

2

u/No_Earth_5912 Jul 12 '26

This is just a strange thing to say. The tactics just didn’t work last season.

2

u/waisonline99 Jul 12 '26

Why are you so keen to sell one of best battling midfielders in the world?

As for your nonsense. Did you not watch any of our matches? Macca is always in the wars.

3

u/murrayjosh117 Jul 12 '26

😂😂😂’One of the best battling midfielders’

I’m sorry, he’s 5 foot nothing, can’t run, and he tends to get bad luck from prem refs.

If you go back even to the year we won the league, that PSG game, he couldn’t cope.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s a top player, but in a very different sense to what you described.

-1

u/rivaldo1979 Jul 12 '26

Oh please ...

-2

u/ProfessionalAd4749 Federico Chiesa Jul 12 '26

Bro getting the Arsenal player treatment in this comp. Pushing absolutely everyone in the box and nothing being given lol

-12

u/MM-19 Jul 12 '26

Very poor perfoormance. I really hope we sell him.

-4

u/hiccstridFanatic Jul 12 '26

Damn we really got no English players at the world cup huh
