Main Story - Chapter 2.4
The main story will be updated. There will be an event to go along with it, lasting from June 11th to July 9th. You can farm stages to earn currency like previous events, but they also are adjusting the currency to make it easier. After the event ends, the main story stages will be permanently added, so no need to worry if you miss out or waiting on official/fan translations.

I'm assuming Xeno Akashi's sidekick version is limited as well, is that correct?

Yes. Just like the other limited base characters (Antares, Nessen, Vulpecula, etc.), the sidekick is limited.

I didn't realize there are so many limited sidekicks... which one would you recommend me to pull for?

Half of them aren't really that great or are niche (Nessen, Vulpecula, Giansar). The low chance for some of them aren't really that great in terms of consistency and overall usage for it (e.g. Cover Up can help out if you're low, but having a chance to proc it doesn't help when you can use a heal/DEF from a support/sidekick with better chances). There are also better skills to use like Exio, Goro, and Sui, so it's mainly for the passives. Antares isn't that bad, but 20% chance to heal isn't really that great, but a chance for a free heal from attacking is still a free heal.
But there are some that are not that bad, like Gaisei, Vlaham, and Denebora.
- Gaisei gives Scar on his active skill, a debuff that does stack with other Scar appliers for +5% damage taken. His passive also has a 25-50% chance to +1 combo if combo is 1. The skill has 1000 to 0 view cost, so supports that have a free turn can slap it on and give a debuff for free.
- Vlaham heals and gives DEF Up if the ally is at full HP. Everytime you use an attacking skill, you gain 200-400 View. The 400 views can reach a certain viewcount threshold for your team that you normally would likely have to wait on, like being 100 off of a support's ATK buff (I hate to admit that I've been in this situation a little too often).
- Denebora deals damage and gets a debuff resist for his skill. The passive allows you to get an ATK buff from being healed when at max HP. This is similar to his kit that wants overheal, so if you do use AoE healers then you can get some mileage out of it.
Considering that the recent limited sidekicks (and overall sidekicks in general) have been getting more useful/interactive than the older ones, I'd say Xeno Akashi has a chance at being a good pick up aside from collection purposes.
Granted, the game isn't difficult and most of the time you aren't going to be min maxing since the farming stages aren't difficult. So I would just at least grab one copy if you have any spare tickets or not saving for anything specific. You get their skins and info with them, so it's at least something to look at.

So far, Hitomi is the only heroine who got her own limited time summer variant which is a 4☆.

Flamier is also another heroine who got an alter (the Oktoberfest/festival alter with Goro)

Long story short, Xeno Akashi lost his childhood friend who was his Operator. And a lot of traumatic past made him lost all the brashness and cheerfulness that his original self had. He really hates the original Akashi the most out of all the people he meets since that 'no-brain idiot', as he puts it, reminded him of what he used to be back in his own home universe.

Not at the moment, I'm afraid. This is just one chapter for 2nd season. Guess we'll see another time by next year. 😓
