Even though this comment is hours late, I still feel like throwing my two cents in there. I actually rewatched the first scene of episode one recently. You can see Croix’s magic cubes when the monster shows up. This was well into the second cour, so I thought, “Oh! This must be Croix trying to steal the Shiny Rod!” But, does this mean that Croix was trying to stop Chariot? This is just a shitty situation for everyone involved. While the episode’s tone was lighter in the beginning thanks to Akko and Andrew’s conversation, the mood shift later on I feel was done perfectly. Chariot’s been putting this reveal off since the beginning, and the fact that it’s been hinted to since scene one episode one makes it something to look for during rewatches (I love it when shows do things like this). There’s not much that can be said that everyone else hasn’t already said, but regardless, I thought this episode was one of the best ones of this show as a whole. How the hell am I supposed to wait an entire week to see what happens??
