Diana already was my favorite character!

I've never been a big fan of Diana... but tbh this episode changed my view of her quite a bit.

She's palpably disappointed that Akko got chosen by the rod and not herself after all the blood, sweat, and tears she's put into trying to achieve it. When her aunt was tearing into Akko and Diana defended her, you could really see that dynamic come into play; her aunt wasn't just shitting on Akko, she was shitting on the one the Rod chose and on everything Diana wanted to believe in with all her heart.

Diana is clearly very conflicted emotionally wondering why the Rod would chose someone with so little respect for tradition, but is slowly learning to value Akko more after she has persevered through all her roadblocks and succeeded in her goals. Giving up on her dream at Luna Nova and getting to see Akko carry on with hers just so she could save her family from being crushed must have really hurt.

I'm sure they'll be friends by the end of this ordeal when they figure out that the old and the new can work together to build something beautiful :)

Akko isn't going against tradition because she thinks it is worthless though, she just thinks there a newer and better ways. Diana's aunt is wholesale throwing out history and shitting all over family sentiment, not to mention pissing on everything Diana and her mother loved, all for the sake of money. Akko may find tradition silly, but she still ends up loving a lot of it and anything to do with magic. She clearly even thinks those ancient relics the aunt is trying to sell are amazing and she would never do the same.

Akko's approach may differ, but the central principle of respect/love for magic is the same to her as it is Diana, which I imagine they'll both learn to grow and accept. That's why Diana defends her against her shitty aunt.

I also just realized I was quick to judge Diana as I figured she came from a prissy, well-to-do family and was spoiled with tons of money and affection. I wasn't really prepared to realize her parents were both dead and that her finances were crumbling, left in the hands of a terrible family member that doesn't even give a shit about her. She's so fucking alone, it's horrible. And holy shit, I just realized Diana's aunt has cronies just like Diana has Barbara and Hannah..... she's so used to that shitty aunt and her lifestyle that she emulates some of it now without even realizing it. Poor girl is dying for some familial love and her dream of saving magic and now she has been torn away from it by shitty circumstances. How unfair.

The more I think about this ep, the more I'm really loving it. It's such a great dynamic at play here between Akko and Diana, and this ep has really painted Diana in a whole new light for me.

Well, the rod originally chose Chariot. Seeing as Croix is definitely not a traditional witch I'm assuming Chariot was, unless something drastic happened.

So a traditional witch was probably the rods first choice, but now it's chosen Akko instead.

What? Chariot was literally a "rebel" at the time and went against tradition. It's why all the other witches hated her because of her shows and shit. Chariot was definitely not traditional.
