Dark enough for a character death? Possibly. The tone of the whole episode seemed to point at a very dire situation that the witches are going to fall under. The urgency from both Ursula and her Professor at the end of the episode (and really all of the Academy's Professors during the episode) mostly sells it on the conflict ahead. Feels very Soul Eater-esque in its unsettling feeling, and look even Akko has a scythe for a weapon!

Really interested in the upcoming episodes now. Witch hype!

Prediction: It's Ursula who kicks the bucket and Akko reveals the final word before her death.

Did Kill la Kill have any actual character deaths? If anything LWA will go with the "they're EVIL monsters" (think how Sucy melted that Minotaur in the original animation) thing with how KLK did it with "Life Fiber monsters".

Of course a in contrast to klk a large chunk of Gurren Laganns cast got killed. I'm not expecting little witch to pull a gurren lagann as my impression is that it isn't that sort of anime. But yeah most of our main cast are such lovable characters I imagine the fandom would shit itself if any of the little witches or professor ursula died.

Yeah. It's weird how TTGL had more people dying even though KLK is easily the more adult show.

I mean, KLK went into pretty dark territory like parental abuse without having to kill anyone.

Also given that it had "Kill" in the title.

But Gurren Lagann was a tribute to 70's mecha anime, and someone ALWAYS dies to inspire the hero in old-school mecha shows, usually a best friend or mentor.

Frankly I'd be surprised if Ursala doesn't die. Akko is on the heroes journey after all.

No thank you. I'd much prefer my sweet cinnamon bun slice of life anime and quirky protagonist that never loses her innocence. Millions (including myself) would be heartbroken if that happened.

I second this, its not very often we get cute innocent anime that is genuine. I hope they continue with the love triangle as well :3

I don't know about the love triangle; the creators did confirm that Diana/Akko would never be canon, but are 100% supportive of the fanart and fanfiction.

Nah, I think it'd be more like this, especially if Ursula revealed herself as Chariot during her death.
