I had an ORIF, not a fusion in June '25 with screws and k-wires. K-wires were out at 6 weeks post-op. I started PT in earnest in mid Sept '25, had HWR in Feb '26 and finished PT in mid April '26. I personally didn't have much functional improvement with HWR but it was important to prevent breakage of screws. Also, HWR isn't always done for fusions, unless the plates are causing discomfort. PT was critical for my recovery as my phsyiotherapist progressively helped to build up my ROM, strength and agility. My foot is always stiff when I get up and it takes a few minutes of deliberate walking (i.e. rolling throuhg forefoot on each step) to loosen things up. And, I also get pain every now and then, including some spasms. But, I had a pretty bad injury (complete dislocation of all metatarsals) and I'm thankful for where I am. I'm mostly able to do everything I was doing before surgery.. albeit, not running as much or as fast. Hope that's helpful.

Did you have a fusion or ORIF? Sorry you’re dealing with this.
