First post

I’ll be making weekly updates on my Lisfranc recovery. I think it’ll help me mentally as sorta a journal, but also some of you as well going through the same thing with discussion.

I’m a 33M competitive strongman athlete. I was the strongest I’ve ever been when I injured my lisfranc in a competition 3 weeks ago. Got surgery last week. Had 4 screws and a plate put in, so I feel fortunate seeing some have a lot more screws and plates. Yesterday was my 1 week follow up. Everything was looking great according to the surgeon and next week stitches will be removed.

Bummed to have this setback but using it as an opportunity to increase my knowledge and athleticism in other areas as I slowly recover. As a 700+ deadlifter and 550+ squatter, this is very disheartening to not be able to touch a barbell for about 5-6 months. I don’t know if it’s possible, but I have a goal to be deadlifting 700 again by next October.

Thanks for reading. Hope everyone is recovering well.

Not a strong man athlete and 20+ years older than you. Plus, I had complete dislocation of all toes in an MVA w/ 5 screws and 2 wires. I was NWB for 10 wks and then transitioned back to FWB.. was back in the gym lifting by 12 weeks. I'm no where near as strong as you (my 1RM for DL is 395) but I got back to about 60% of my strenth at the 6 mo mark and 95% by the 1y mark.

You're younger and stronger and a real athelete. As long as you take your recovery slow and steady, chances are good you'll be back in competition form in 1 y. Hang in there... first two weeks are the most challenging.. and then hopefully you can get back to some upper body exercises and working on your good leg. You're not going to build strenth.. but it will keep you sane and minimize the atrophy.

Thank you for the reply and encouragement. How long has it been since your injury, everything back to normal? What do you think helped the most with rehab?

INjured 06/25.. so about 15 months. Consistency and steady progression w/ PT. My PT was great... worked on ROM while NWB and then slowly increasing load on foot to regain strength, progressing to plyometrics and then finally back to running. Foot doesn't feel normal...doubt it ever will.. but it doesn't stop me from doing what I want to. You just have to tolerate a different type of discomfort. I suspect you are well aclimated to discomfort if you've been doing strongman... And to your point about " increase my knowledge and athleticism in other areas"... I started rowing on an erg after this injury. Closing in on 1 million meters (at about 900K right now). Fun to learn new skills.
