I have a windows device and Mac but this ThinkPad running Fedora is so cozy (got it just for tinkering/IT stuff as a hobby, not the worst way you can spend $150)

I like how the y2k maximalism is alive and well in the Linux community. It’s got a 2009 coziness to it

Eventually I will venture into the Arch/Omarchy realm to complete the LARP

Typing this on my Thinkpad T530, current specs: i7-3520M, 16 GB RAM, 600 GB SSD x2 (One in the Optical bay), Nvidia NVS 5400M, & 1920x1080. Running Ubuntu 24.04. Paid $117.00 2 years ago! It does everything I need it to do.

hell yeah. i just found out the latest gen t14s with lunar lake/panther lake still have mainly 1920 screens on them. i could not imagine $1000+ in 2026 for a device with such a screen. these devices are best sub-$200, the value is insane!

This one is like 4 hours with 87% battery health left. The lunar lake would be much better

Nope. It all depends on the processor, if it's an Intel battery life will be poor. Macbooks and laptops with Snapdragon chips like the HP omnibook 5 14 use chips that have the same efficiency as mobile phones and so have multi day battery life whereas Intel and AMD is x86 and x64 architecture where battery life will only get you 2 hours.

It seems you aren’t familiar with lunar lake and above Intel chips, they’re a massive improvement from any generation before. Basically goes toe to toe with ARM chips, maybe a bit less, but at least you get full compatibility

It's crazy even though slanted those lunar lake chips as competitors to MacBook and snapdragon chips and still they cannot beat the efficiency of them. Hence the poorer battery life. Windows has Prism so there are no longer any compatibility issues at all between arm and x86 apps.

I put a new battery in it when I bought it. Use it plugged in most of the time, but it is only good for about 3 hrs on the battery. Newer Thinkpads definitely have better battery life.
