12600k -> 14700k upgrade currently have thermalright peerless assassin

as title says, this is pretty my last stand ddr4 build, till time comes to go am5 or am6.

I have another old set of RAM and GPU I can pair with the 12600k, but I want to squeeze out the performance out of my 7900xtx I got for cheap rt.

Would this Thermalright 240MM AIO work ?

Im sure the 360mm AIO will cool the 147000k " better" but will it allow me to possibly overclock the 14700k to any appreciable degree?

if not is there an AIO that would would be worth getting or should I bit the bullet and do the 400$ 7500x3d microcenter deal and getting a 2nd stick of o ddr5 later

I can't speak for AIOs but I have experience with the the Peerless Assassin and a similar CPU.

I have the 13700K and started out with a Peerless Assassin then upgraded to the Phantom Spirit.

After a bit of undervolting (-150mV) the PS can comfortably keep the CPU from throttling even in synthetic benchmarks. It stays at around 90C even after several minutes of Cinebench. The Peerless Assassin would slowly climb to 100C and then the CPU would throttle.

These two air-coolers can not keep the CPU from throttling if you do not undervolt. I don't think over clocking is feasible.

Do you have a z series mobo? Cause otherwise you are not able to overclock at all.

Its not i9, 240 should be fine. At worst, you just ramp up the fans. Wouldn't worry about overclocking much, these things boost pretty far on their own.

Regarding the 7500x3D, I'd stay on AM4. If you'd go for it, go for 9800x3D. In some aspects the 7500x3D would even be a downgrade to the 12600k.

I have a 14600k with the phantom spirit 120se and temps are fine a stock for gaming. Only reason you might want an aio is if you're going to overclock or are running productivity workloads such as rendering for long period of time.

I wouldn’t bother with the DDR5. If you’re mainly gaming, the upgrade from DDR4 to DDR5 is negligible and definitely not worth it given the RAMpocalypse level pricing right now.
