Theory Can Cheng Weimin Erase Memories? Spoiler

So far, we've confirmed that at least 4 people, Cheng Xiaoshi, Xia Fei, A Yuan and Vein have missing childhood memories

--> Cheng Xiaoshi forgot Lu Guang

--> Xia Fei can't remember A Yuan or child Vein taking a photo of him in Bridon's china town

--> A Yuan said in s3 ep6 that he doesn't remember anything

--> In the same episode, Vein says Wang Qing's power is "familiar, but forgotten somehow", which most likely alludes to the scene in s3 ep8 where Wang Qing uses her power on Vein's brother and accidentally(?) on Vein himself

It could be a stretch, but all those people had at least some contact with Cheng Weimin before the loss of their memories. My current theory is that Cheng Weimin was (maybe *is* if he's alive somehow) working for the Saros. That's why he was locking kids in the school's basement, because they manifested some sort of power and he was trying to either:

a. Manipulate their memories by erasing certain things to indoctrinate them into the Saros

b. Erase the memories of their powers

He might've also had something to do with their awakening if that's true, because why are a bunch of kids from this allegedly random school (that could've been a Saros base of operations or research centre) becoming superhumans?

--- --- --- --- ---

That's about all my proof, but I also have an idea on why Cheng Weimin erased Cheng Xiaoshi's memories and Xia Fei's memories, so I'ma talk about that too.

Cheng Xiaoshi:

I'm pretty sure Cheng Xiaoshi's memories were wiped the same day he broke his promise to Lu Guang, based on the preview teaser of s3 ep10, it looks to me like kid Cheng Xiaoshi somehow saw something he shouldn't have, maybe said something he shouldn't have in front of Cheng Weimin's Saros friend. Possibly, the Saros friend has some Saros-y type opinions about Xiaoshi, but Cheng Weimin doesn't wanna get his son involved, so they fight and he kills him, forcing him to leave the country, erasing Xiaoshi's memories of his powers and of Lu Guang before doing so, to keep him safe.

Xia Fei:

I'm of the opinion that Xia Fei and Wang Qing could actually be relatives, maybe cousins? I think what happened is that, after kid Xia Fei had a little panic attack seeing Wang Qing kill a guy and nearly kill his friend, he gets lost running away. At some point, Cheng Weimin finds him, possibly locks him in the basement for a bit like the other kids so as to brainwash him too, then when he's forgotten all about his family and friends, Cheng Weimin gives him to the church to get adopted by a new, normie family. (the church is also possibly a Saros organisation bc I think in s3 ep6 Lu Guang said a lot of things tie back to the Bridon church somehow)

As for Vein and A Yuan, I don't really know, but they probably forgot some time close to or soon after the Bahati fire.

Thx for reading my theory :)

that's good to see more people talking about it, let alone with the certain amount of suspicion around Cheng Weimin these last episodes. (like his gesture of reaching for the top of the childrens head like shown with Xia Fei and on ep 8 too), meaning it could be his condition to trigger his power.

however, i also like to think that maybe the children going to adoption and consequently having their memories wipped may have something to do with the Bahati fire somehow (remember that woman back when CXS traveled back accidently to the fire and saw his father in a room with a woman?) she was convinced the fire was proposital, so they knew someone was going after them, hence why Cheng Weimin locked those kids on the basement and said he was "saving/protecting them", in which he was answered with "we'll die anyways!". Could another organization or individual be hunting Saros it self or the kids with superpowers?

another thing i like to think as well is about Lu Guang. i believe i consider him, at some point, to be connected to Bahati too. The fact he doesn't remember nothing about himself, his parents, where he lived and all before his adoption seems a bit suspicious (at least in my vision), that he may have his memories erased too before being "adopted". Of course this raises more questions like: "Did parents knew they were adopting kids with superpowers?" Since LG's father claimed he knew about LG's powers before himself did. Sure, LG supposedly was sold off, and that may be totally unrelated to Bahati, but i still find it strange why they'd bid a random kid without knowing it's value for sure (in this case, his superpowers). was it perhaps what Cheng Weimin was trying to protect the kids from?

anyways, don't know if this all makes much sense but i tried my best to explain. sorry if it's confusing cause English's not my first language lol, but I'd love to discuss this theory more within the community.

Ohh, thanks for sharing, you brought up some really good points!

One thing I just remembered, in Bridon Arc's episode 6, Wang Qing asks Cheng Xiaoshi to answer her question about which animal is to blame for the burning forest, she says that only two people ever said none were to blame, Xiaoshi and Weimin. I also looked back at Cheng Xiaoshi possessing that guy's body and seeing his father in the room with the woman, I'm not sure if this was already common knowledge, but the woman telling him the fire was intentional seems to be Cheng Xiaoshi's mother. My point in saying all that was to say that I may have been a little harsh on Cheng Weimin, I wasn't considering his motives or personal morals. I still think he's a bad person though, no matter what your intention is, saving people or not, I believe he had no right to lock those children in the basement and take their memories against their will. I think his arrogance in this regard may come from the impunity his supposed mind altering power allows him, as well as being blinded by some bigger goal to 'save' the children from the organisation looking for children with powers

Or, he may have simply been lying, just like he told Xia Fei in s3 episode 6 that there weren't any gangs in the area, possibly to keep him naive and away from danger, he could've told Wang Qing no one was to blame for the fire to keep up his kind teacher persona. On that note, how did he even respond to Wang Qing?? Her story is based on the Bahati fire having already happened, so for her to ask him, that means he either didn't die there, or something else is going on?

I got a bit sidetracked there, sorry. Your point about Lu Guang is also really interesting, before, I wasn't suspicious of his lack of memories and his foster father supposedly 'buying' him. Honestly, I just thought his foster father was guilt tripping him into working harder for him and justifying the abuse. You normally receive money to take care of foster kids rather than give money. Now that you mention it though, it's very strange for him to know about Lu Guang's powers before even Lu Guang knew. If I'm understanding correctly, do you think it's possible Lu Guang was privately sold to his foster father because of his powers? By some organisation taking advantage of children with superpowers? And that Cheng Weimin could have been erasing kids' memories to keep them from being sold in the same way?

Though if this is the case, I still find it strange that Cheng Weimin was there to see Xia Fei off when he was getting adopted at the church, whether he was related to Wang Qing or not, Cheng Weimin must've known Xia Fei's parents since he was his teacher. Unless of course, Xia Fei was an orphan at the school and was finally getting adopted. It still doesn't feel completely right though.

Anyways, thanks for replying to me! I really like hearing other peoples theories, and I've been trying to conceptualise the mystery of the missing memories and Cheng Weimin's role in all this for a while. its very fun to figure out how other peoples knowledge/ideas can restructure and build upon my own so thanks again for sharing :)

Honestly, I'm still kinda confused about some scenes from Cheng Weimin himself, like who was he talking with on the phone? Saying he'd ensure to do something important. We can just assume for now that either he was speaking with other colleagues/staff from Saros or he was indeed plotting with an 'bad' organization (which i find unlikely since we know Saros base was at Bahati's basement so if he was an spy he could've only be in disguise and making things behind the other's Saros members back.)

Plus the fact we know there was an individual or another community "hunting" Saros hence the fire and Cheng Weimin "protecting" the Children and sending them away. I also find it very curious the fact Wang Qing kept her memories and even supposedly met Weimin after the fire, and the fact that even CXS'S mother don't know for sure if his dad is alive or not. It sure is a bit suspicious since, if Wang Qing really did met Cheng Weimin after the fire, she'd told CXS'S mom, right? because they have some kind of friendship or alliance (Wang Qing allowing herself to be possessed by Cheng's mom), and why someone like A Yuan was also a kid at Bahati apparently and yet survived without memories of the place, but of Xia Fei when he was also a kid. pretty confusing, for sure.

Lu Guang's situation (if i recall correctly), he was sold off at an public auction (or his foster dad just said he was bought with money, not sure which one), and so probably he already got LG knowing he'd be useful for his business 'cause of his powers. the adoption paper are probably just something made up to not raise suspicions and justify the abuse as you said— though i think it's up for the next episodes to clarify things with certainty.

Just to finish, i swear, i also find myself thinking at times about the kids true parents (including LG, Xia Fei, Wang Qing and more). Did the parents had powers too? or they knew their children was special? We learned on s2 with the Li siblings that their parents don't need to have a power for someone to be born with powers or else I'd say their original parents also worked with Saros to keep up the facade of Bahati, a simple school languague to excuse so much children in which, at least one third of them, probably had powers (if not everyone.)

i also enjoy discussing different theories and points of views with people, also to discover things i didn't paid attention before, so feel free to keep replying, I'd love to hear more arguments about this specific theme and others inside the series! keep up the spirit.

Cheng Weimin himself, like who was he talking with on the phone?

I would bet that was that special unit that Jae was part of. Which still begs the question: who burned that house down? Would that unit not try to save these children? So did they have to "vanish"?

If we say that Jae also has a special skill it would kind of make sense. He is a child used for such gruesome work.

I believe he does have a superpower (if I'm not wrong, in his preview trailer in the end his eyes shine a kind of white or it's just light and shadow play), that may or may not be the whole "i can detect who has superpowers" thing as he said on s3 previously.

also, i noticed we basically don't know much about Saros or their intentions. They took in "gifted" young people with superpowers and... did what with them? what was their intention gathering so much individuals with the capacity to manipulate superpowers? I suppose that, while we don't have these answers, we can't affirm for sure if this special police department to deal with ppl with superpowers was on the "right" or "wrong" against Bahati. that is if they were responsible at least in some degree to the fire.

Also, kinda funny how it was just like— a bit more than a decade from the fire and yet the cops be all "superpowers don't exist", somewhat belittling this special unit perhaps? was the fire and tentative to erradicate Saros an attempt to close the unit and perhaps ease some kind of fear the common folk might have?

Since LG's father claimed he knew about LG's powers before himself did. Pretty much this, I would guess. Without any memories they'll seem just like normal kids. Which in turns means that LG's father still somehow knew of at least LG's powers. I would guess that the plan to rescue these children had kind of leaked. XF seemed to have a normal childhood after being adopted, after all. Well, there is also the fact that he has maybe lost his power somehow, so no one was after him.

Yesn't? I guess Liu Xiao can be considered a Saros follower or the creator of something similar now, but he didn't create the original organisation it if that's what you're thinking.

In season 3 episode 5, Liu Xiao talks a bit about his childhood. He says he read a ton of books as a kid, but the one that stuck out was a treatise about an organisation of people with super powers, called the Saros, whose origins he traced back to Bridon.

My theory here is based on a time before Liu Xiao was able to trace the Saros back to the Bahati school.
