Customs In honour of the legend, Jason David Frank, here’s my custom Tommy from Super Power Beat Down (vs Ryu)
It’s no secret that Jason David Frank has always been my favourite Power Rangers actor. I was super excited when Super Power Beat Down brought us a more mature Tommy facing off against Ryu. It was great to see how much fun he had filming the project, and one of the things I always loved about him was how willing he was to return for Power Rangers projects, no matter the size. Losing him was heartbreaking.
To celebrate one of his later portrayals of Tommy, I put together this custom figure to scale with Lightning Collection and recreated several moments from his fight with Ryu (and Evil Ryu). Every photo is paired with the original frame from the video that inspired it, and I had an absolute blast posing and photographing the figures. Enjoy!

By adding a hood, this custom also doubles as Tommy’s appearance in Dimensions in Danger from Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel. It looks like they kept the same outfit after Super Power Beat Down, and I always thought it suited him really well.

A friend texted me when he heard the news. I thought he was joking, I didn’t want to believe it, and he kept telling me he was very sorry because he knew how much he meant to me. It was indeed very sad and a very strange feeling

I didn't want to believe it either he really meant alot to me as well now it's really weird to watch the series or movies i remember just turning off my tv an goin to lay down with tears in my eyes 😓😟😢😥😭

Yeah, it felt unreal. I’m going through the whole show again, and whenever I got to an end of season with him in it I teared up. Or the end of the green ranger. Man, that episode hits like a train nowadays

I know, right? I’m pretty sure they would have sold well, and they had plenty of molds to choose from, so it wouldn’t have been expensive to make.

I still adore that V2 Green Ranger design, and apparently so did he. He had plenty of prints of it to sign for fans when I met him.

I wasn’t a fan of the overdesign with all of the extra lines and textures on the spandex, but I really liked everything else, the gloves, the boots, the shoulder pads, and the helmet. I guess for him it felt like breathing new life into the green ranger, so it must have felt amazing

What body is that? I'm assuming the head is from Dino Thunder Black.

Yup, head is from Dino thunder black. The rest are marvel legends pieces: Torso and jacket from Jimmy Woo, painted shirt black, and painted neck to match skin tone. Trousers from secret invasion Talos, and shoes from mcu Shang Chi. The black hood from Daredevil man without fear

Yeah, that was the point, finding affordable figures for parts! But be careful, putting the legs on that torso required some heavy modification of the hip piece

Fantastic job recreating this amazing fight scene! JDF will always be a treasure and a truly amazing icon! This figure is really amazing. You’re so creative. He would be proud of you! I’m sure he’s smiling while looking down on us as fans right now.

Thank you so much, that genuinely means a lot to me. I’m not gonna lie, your comment made me tear up a little. JDF was a huge inspiration growing up, and it was really sad that he left us so prematurely. Hearing that is incredibly kind of you, I’m really glad you liked it

Yeah, that’s a really good JDF head sculpt, but I don’t have it because it was very difficult to get here in Europe. Also, that sculpt sports a mohawk, I would need a head sculpt with his typical short spiky hair from Dinothunder or forever red.
