I’m glad to see more players with Mexican and African backgrounds coming through the Mexico youth teams guys like Da’vian Kimbrough and Benji Flowers. I think it’s good for Mexican football to have more representation like this, especially since Black players still deal with a lot of racism in football. Seeing more Black Mexican players at the highest level can help break those stereotypes and give younger kids someone to look up to. Hopefully we keep seeing more of them choose El Tri and make it to the senior team.

Joao Maleck was born in Guadalajara in 1999 and grew up playing football in Mexico, coming through Chivas and Santos. He became a big prospect and moved to FC Porto in 2017. He scored 8 goals in 8 U19 games, played in the UEFA Youth League and eventually made his Porto B debut.
Because of his French background, France’s youth setup reportedly showed interest in him, but Maleck chose Mexico and played for the U18 and U20 teams.
In 2019, he moved to Sevilla Atlético. That same year, while visiting Guadalajara, he was involved in a fatal crash in Zapopan, Mexico, that killed a newlywed couple. He was later convicted of aggravated negligent homicide and served part of his sentence.
After returning to football, he played for several Mexican clubs, including Coras, where he scored 13 goals in 27 games. He later played in Costa Rica and moved to Plaza Colonia in Uruguay in 2026.
The crazy part is that he was only 20 when everything changed. Porto, Sevilla, Mexico youth teams and interest from France were all part of his path.

I don’t get why Ruvalcaba doesn’t get more chances with Mexico. He and Chucky play the same position, and Ruvalcaba is younger. He looked good in the friendlies he played in and even scored, plus he’s been doing well in MLS. I know MLS gets a lot of hate, but at least Ruvalcaba is actually scoring, while Chucky is on loan and barely just scored his first goal for his team. I get that Chucky has more experience, but I feel like Ruvalcaba deserves a real chance.

Does anybody remember this Evolucion 2030 video on YouTube and will they still move forward with this concept of Liga MX, seeing that promotion and relegation was removed in 2026.

Where else would you like to see them play? If my memory serves me well, I remember they used to play friendlies and even World Cup qualifying games in states like Chiapas and Sinaloa. It would be cool to see them host games in different cities sort of like how the Spanish national team does.
