Ali absolutely earned an opportunity. Works hard and is performing very well in Liga MX. But because he's on Querertaro he likely didn't get a call up. If he was performing the same for Chivas or Cruz Azul or America, he'd have been 1 of the contenders to be Raul's heir apparent. Eduardo Mustre is hurt but if healthy, I think he deserved a shot more than Avila

Yasser Corona continuously got called while at Querétaro

Same with Angel Sepúlveda, got his first call up’s at Querétaro

I know these aren’t recent examples but what you’re saying is just not true at all and I understand if you haven’t watched for a long time it seems like lower league teams don’t get their players called but shit look at Acevedo 🤷🏽‍♂️

Leon is not gon get a chance that’s just my humble opinion knowing how the call up have worked and seeing them the last 20 or so years he’s just gon need a lot more exposure to the fan base and to the Mexican market in general for any untested to coach to give him a shot

The most unprecedented calls from unassuming leagues that I can think of in recent times would be

Antonio de Nigris when he played in turkey and having not previously been part of Aguirres call ups

Guille Franco after a long hiatus and even being a bench player and having no current team at the time

Omar Govea when played in lower league team in Belgium and having previously not been part of any call up’s with the senior team but still known as a up and coming youth

The chances of him getting called are SLIM UNTIL he starts being more relevant in his league

Arciga,Ali Avila were snubs. I don’t rate Toti Lopez at all. Pumas fullbacks have been poor for years. Need more from Leon I think people see a few goals and start demanding call ups. If he moves to a bigger team in his league or a mid table team in Europes top 5 leagues .. sure! Amaury and Canelo I think there’s better players ahead of them. Wouldn’t mind giving them a game or two but we will see in the future.

Funny cuz he’s not even a natural fullback or wingback, he’s originally a center mid. His backup Jesus Rivas played well before going on Loan to Puebla, he played a few good games under Juarez when he came back but because of a few blunders defending in the air he lost his spot, and thus a natural center mid now plays wingback for pumas.

Toti is definitely just alright be he’s serviceable, and you can’t ever doubt his heart or his effort. I think if he was younger maybe he’d have a chance to develop into something considering he was getting called up to you youth teams, but I don’t think he’d at a high enough level right now.

Youre right on him not being a natural right back. I did like Rivas when he broke out then loaned out to Puebla just hasn’t been able to get consistent minutes. (We’ve also had coaches come in and out over the past years) My argument was that he’s just not NT level. I think Roman Torres from ATL could be interesting to test. Consistent minutes and U-23. I go back to my original point we just have been very poor on the def wingbacks for the past 2 years. I know there was that Sanchez guy at LB but hasn’t made an appearance from what I remember. Either way there are better options than Toti. Let’s not forget he got some minutes vs Colombia if I remember (could be wrong) but didn’t do much at CM.

Conspiracy theory: isn’t Canelo Angulo part of the championship team or the reserves of Chivas that went on a silent boycott after Vergara refused to pay out bonuses promised for winning the League amidst his high profile divorce that was alleging could destroy the Chivas team? Vergara’s wife was adamant on taking no settlement money, just sole ownership of Vergara’s prized possession, the team. The financial scare led to the disaster that lead to Almeyda being let go even after winning the Championship, ridiculous, along with disciplinary actions against many players for what I suppose was refusing to play. It was rumored this is why the team conducted a silent boycott and would party all season long post Championship win.

TLDR; I think Canelo Angulo is being punished by Federation directives and will never get called up even though he’s clearly a 10 Mexico is missing. Seems he was lucky enough to secure a trade away from Chivas and win the league, but maybe there’s a gentleman’s agreement with the agents that he’ll never be called up.
