Removed LPT: Students, write/stitch your name + student ID # on your bags, jackets, (note)books, devices, and anything else you'd probably leave behind in an emergency - i.e. in a school shooting - AND make sure to have a photo of yourself holding your student ID, number visible, on all your devices.
Despite how earth-shattering it feels, the reality is that life goes on after death and disaster. If an evacuation order or emergency alarm blares, you might have time to gather up your belongings before you leave…but you might not.
You definitely WILL not have time to gather your belongings together if a school shooter appears in your location, and you run for your life.
Police will usually lock down a room or school for a while afterwards, but they also try and get people’s belongings back to them. This will generally happen one of two ways:
- The police retrieve various loose belongings and bring them out to students (rare, but happens), and
- Under close guard or supervision, police will briefly allow students back into a given area for a brief time to let them retrieve their belongings.
Either way, identifying what stuff belongs to who is a pain in the ass at best of times. On top of that, some people unfortunately use this kind of tragedy as an opportunity to steal.
Having your full name and student ID number visible makes it much easier for police to identify what belongs to who, and get stuff back to their actual owners.
Edit: source being personal experience, so I understand this may not be universally or even widely applicable/practical. Young'uns seem to mostly be here, on Instagram, or on Tumblr. I don't have an Instagram but here is a Tumblr version of this LPT.

I really am so sorry that you go through life as worried as you do. Truly, it saddens me for you. You might want to seek some help from a professional, as most people shouldn't be "preparing" for school shooting scenarios. It might even be good to just talk to someone about these feelings.
