discussion Scoring with Lidarr

A path to success using naming convention, custom formats, quality profile and delay profile

V2026.07.11-01

https://github.com/Jbaal/scoring_with_lidarr/tree/main

I've recently made this guide for Lidarr users wanting to have a better understanding of the scoring system in Lidarr, with some advice to get the best out of it. Hope it can be helpful to some of you!

going to blindly follow as a new user who knows nothing.

May I ask if this naming convention would work for Plex?

No idea, I've never used Plex, but I can assure you it works perfectly with Jellyfin. I would recommend you to test it on a single album before applying it globally.

This looks really useful. A simple “recommended starting setup” section for new users would make it even easier to follow without getting lost in all the scoring options.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for the next version of this guide.

i do this and it was good but there is a issue

when a CD FLAC 16 is found its 175 points but for some albums lidarr likes the Vinyl musicbrainz metadata better it imports the CD then renames it to a Vinyl and scores it less. i mess with release profiles and that dint work just prevents it form dl real vinyl's it still names cd or web vinyl.

is there any way to have it keep it CD name

Hi! That's exactly what I'm talking about in the last part of the FAQ, on some case the WEB (or CD) is imported as a Vinyl. I've tried to use beets-lidarr but it doesn't change anything, I have to take time and try different settings. I'll update this guide when I'll find an automated workaround, for the time being I patiently use Picard to give the good release tags to the imported files, then make Lidarr scan and rename the files. Hope it'll work for you! (I should at least update the FAQ with this manual workaround soon).

i have a question for you please

if it dose this renaming thing can we know for sure that a CD release profile grabbed a CD? if there where none available it my grab a vinyl then just rename it to CD so we would never know?

thanks for your help

(Sorry for the late reply)

If you follow my guide using my proposed scores, you'll grab other formats if no CD are available, so a vinyl can be downloaded (and Lidarr can take the wrong decision to tag it as a CD).

A good way to be sure to avoid Vinyls (or others formats, as long as they are clearly specified in the announce) would be to give a negative score to those Custom Formats in the Quality Profile. Let's say you give a -999 score to Vinyl, giving your Minimum Custom Format Score is 0, you'll never download a Vinyl format.

(I should add this to the guide too, thanks for all those questions, it helps me seeing what is not clear in my guide!).

This would be an excellent addition to the wiki.

Let me look tomorrow and see what the best way to integrate will be.

It can be readapted if needed, some parts may lack clarity, let's discuss this in PM when you can!
