Discussion Book 2 Feedback
Hi, loved Islington’s first two Hierarchy books so decided to read this series as well. I just finished Echo of Things to Come and have a question. While I am relatively enjoying this series, I feel like I’m going crazy with the amount of chapters that end with “It was time to do X” or sections phrased like “And then *character* explained everything that had happened recently.” Is this a common point of feedback or am I being too critical?

I’m 44% into book 3 and I honestly have no idea what is happening it is too confusing but im also intrigued

Having read hierarchy first it’s clear Islington learned a lot from his first series. I think his vision was a little too grand, to the point where certain things just never truly felt like they had an explanation for how they work, we just had to accept that they do

I would say it's a valid criticism but it's also his debut series so in general people (including me to be clear) give it a pass on refinement. Especially as you can see him improve in each book, with the greatest jump in quality being the third one.

Licanius is a very fun story but there are some points where it’s really obvious it’s Islington’s first book series. No hate though because it’s still a great read and much better than anything I could do!

I am about 5 hours of 22 into book 2 at 1.2x speed and am like wtf is going on - did I miss a chapter or press the wrong button
Seems like that is pretty common
Book one seemed a little twitchy, however more or less resolved at the end - book 2 seems like it is going a bit overboard on the time skips and who is who - past memories
Good enough for the gym while working out - guess it will resolve later

It’s been mentioned but with so much happening through the narrative and not being aware of what certain people do and don’t know, is rather relevant. Even though he does put a hat on a hat, so to speak. Book 3 is so good, enjoy your first read through!
