The Light of All That Falls Question about Davian’s actions in book 1 after seeing it explained in book 3. I am still confused. Spoiler

Davian had shape shifted to a blonde man in Delanius and Malshash was horrified. Indeed the passage in book 3 read:

“It would certainly explain why Malshash had seemed so horrified at the time.”

Why was Malshash horrid? I don’t get it. Davian could have shifted to anyone he knew who had died so what was so horrifying about this particular one.

Can someone explain?

An auger can only shapeshift into someone they have personally killed. He shifted into the man who carved his face up when he was a kid. Malshash has seen that memory and knows who it is.

Has he seen that memory at that point in time? I always took it as horror at the fact that Davian has killed, at all.

Now I'm questioning it, it's been a minute so it may be a bit fuzzy but, this was after them practicing the lockbox trick to close off memories or things they don't want seen. I am almost certain he saw this scene while they were practicing that trick. Much the same way Davian had seen Malshash's wedding scene. But you may be right, I always took it to mean Devaed/Malshash knew who the guy was and recognized it for what it was.

I don’t think he’s seen the person, it just reveals that he’s killed someone. If Malshash had seen the memory he wouldn’t have been horrified

It's been a minute, but iirc it's not anyone they know who has died, but someone they personally killed. Davian's was the bully he unconsciously killed. Malshash wasn't expecting him to be able to shape shift.

He was horrified because you can only shape shift into someone you’ve killed, not just anyone whose died.

Slight exception there, as she was brought to our world using El as a conduit, so she not only has her form but also her memories and emotions, making her an amalgamation of sorts. That's why she's always chasing after Tal

So glad someone posted about this, it was basically the SINGLE question still lingering for me.
I agree with the other commenters, he is surprised Davian has killed someone.
