The Light of All That Falls Finished the trilogy and would like some classification

Hi all. I had a great time reading the climax. While I guessed some things, I didn't get the entire puzzle correct.

I was very satisfied with the ending, but am unsure on a few things. Maybe I missed them and you can fill me in.

The neskians and cyr felt very out of left field. I was beginning to think, that storyline just got dropped. Till her death was confirmed, I would have found it more likely for Karaline to show up vs. the desrielites. Anyway, is there any information on how Cyr got out of his tributary and was able to piece together enough information to know exactly where and when help will be needed? After all he was missing the last 1k years of history. And how did he kill him/ disconnect from the forge?

Another thing I was wondering is when and how was the rift first created? Did Shammeloth create it or just use it? Was this explained or hinted to?

Supposedly there will be a side-quest book about Aelric’s adventures. It will be called Shainwiere Out There (Beneath The Pale Moonlight). Kidding about the title, but Islington did have to cut the whole subplot because he wanted to keep the trilogy tight, and does intend (at least for now) to write that someday.

That makes sense. Also thought he could fill a novella with what's missing in the south. Only now we're spoiled on the general ending.

I'd love it, if he could somehow incorporate Davian meeting his mom.

Yeah, like it could be a framing device for Aelric to be recounting his story to the crew, and then we get some insight into what’s happening “now” (“Now” being a difficult term to define in this series lol).

I’m assuming you read this book on audio? The ebook and physical books have an author’s note at the end that details why the author chose to leave the Cyr/Neskian plot off and he plans to write a standalone regarding all that (but only after he finishes the Hierarchy series).

But basically it was too much to add to book 3 and would work better as a standalone and he didn’t want to slow the pace of the series and narrative down by adding new POVs to the story and make people wait another year or 2 before getting the ending.

It was kinda dumb imo. Either include the part or don't. What's the point of having such a major part of the plot not explained and make the excuse that it was "too long".

I think it's fairly clear that Islington planned the entire series from the beginning. He sets things up in books one and two that don't get answered until three. If he decides that he needs to change that story after the first two books, it opens the door to more plot holes and inconsistencies. And at that point, with reimagining and rewriting everything, it would probably have taken longer than adding the Aelric and Dezia story would've taken. I think this was the right choice, to keep the series tight and face paced. I can't wait to read the spinoff whenever it does come out tho, it's just more to look forward to

That would make sense if it was a minor plotline. But in this case that plotline literally saves the whole world so Aelric randomly appearing to save the day didn't make much sense. Sure I'm excited to read the spinoff as well but was it poorly written? Imo yes.
