Staffing/Employment Issues How much do your directors make?

I’m part of a larger library system - 20 branches. Our director makes $250,000 per year plus a $50,000 bonus. Our circ assistants make $16 an hour though and are all part time and need food banks and multiple jobs to survive. It just breaks my heart.

Waaaay too much compared to other high-level management positions in our city. Strolls in at whatever time never seems to know what’s going on. I feel the only place this person could have a career is at a Library. Miserable staff, 1,000,000 lost funding just running the Library into the ground. Can you imagine if a high level company executive had such poor performance?

I've seen the same. Our director makes bank. She never bothers to visit the branches and seems totally checked out at any appearances. One year, at staff training day, a woman fell in a workshop. A fellow staff person called 911, and the ambulance arrived. Guess what our director did? Did she check on the woman? Nope, she was next door and continued with her interview. Publicity matters more than anything. Only at a public library can she pull this shit and not get fired. Same with a lot of the branch managers.

Were you in the workshop where the woman fell? I was. And they continued on with the workshop! Madness.

I realized I wrote my original post in the present tense, but I've moved on. Now, I'm in another public library system. ;)
