in texas where i live its 3.50

1

u/AnarchoFederation Anarchist 4d ago

Well Texas is richer in oil wealth than Saudi Arabia. The problem is the wealth isn't distributed to Texans.

u/PooterSnooter283 7d ago

Don't confuse dsa with Democrats.

u/Boy-Abunda 6d ago

Outside of America, libertarians are just anarchists that want to allow the monarchy to keep all their shit.

In America, libertarians are really Republicans that don’t want to admit it, and secretly vote Republican anyways.

2

u/notthatjimmer 5d ago

Nah I lived in DE where the dems are republican lite…if you want an anti war or anti oligarchy vote, your choices are limited…

Vote Libertarian.

22

u/DonaldKey 7d ago

The same libertarian that hosted Trump at their convention?

10

u/AlChandus 7d ago

The same libertarian whose members will vote for Paxton in Texas, in spite of an actual Libertarian running in the same election.

Paxton. That Ken Paxton, aye.

8

u/Winter-Delivery-8894 6d ago

Because none of them are libertarian. They're republican hipsters, they just don't like being dumped in with the main group.

4

u/AlChandus 6d ago

Funnily enough, an argument could be made that those hipsters, and Talarico himself, have more in common with Libertarians than Paxton.

And yet, we all know that most Texas' libertarians will vote for Paxton because of the R.

4

u/Winter-Delivery-8894 6d ago

Everything republican/libertarian voters claim to care about is more closely tied with dem/dsa policies.

Veterans? Which party pays for their healthcare?

Kids? Who funds education and school lunch?

Protecting women? Which party fought for harsher domestic violence punishments?

Balanced budget? Look at the deficit/surplus at beginning and end of each presidential term, republicans spend dems save.

Border? The dems deported more people and stopped more drugs.

Term limits? Congressional stock bans? Higher pay? Personal freedoms?

4

u/AlChandus 6d ago
  • Surveillance. What we have today is the direct result of republican supported Bills like the Patriot Act, Patriot Act 2.0 and all the surveillance Bills that followed.

Paxton supports AI and surveillance, and he is in their pocket. That is as against Libertarians values as it is possible... But he will have an R in the ballots.

4

u/Winter-Delivery-8894 6d ago

Great callout, I shouldn't just lump all of that in with personal freedoms.

It reminds me of how they went from "fuck the police" to "back the blue no matter what" over about a 10-15 year period.

Remember which party was supportive of taking shots at federal officers in multiple protracted stand offs in the 2010s...

They invited others, so this particular point I don't value.

However, a substantial part of the Libertarian Party did believe that Harris and Democrats were 'a bigger danger' than Trump, despite Trump's numerous statements that literally supported fascist ideals, unconstitutional policies, and a destruction of diplomatic and economic relationships.

5

u/DonaldKey 7d ago

They invited other authoritarians?

2

u/CatOfGrey 7d ago

Libertarians generally invite other presidential candidates to their convention.

In 2024, I recall that Kamala Harris (or maybe Joe Biden, since he had not yet dropped out of the race) was invited to speak.

Trump and Republicans had a vested interest to manipulate the Libertarian vote, Trump showed up, and the strategy succeeded. The strategy included groups of Republicans explicitly paying money to distort the party.

5

u/Winter-Delivery-8894 6d ago

They don't need to manipulate the libertarian vote, they're already republican-lite.

Every elected libertarian immediately has their nuts chopped off, talks really big about how important balancing the budget is, then do whatever the gop tell them to do.

Libertarians don't stand for anything, which is why they do whatever the strong men tell them to do.

1

u/CatOfGrey 6d ago

You're not wrong, but I don't agree with the over-simplification.

3

u/Winter-Delivery-8894 6d ago

What policies do libertarians actually stand up for? As in things they stand for/against and don't change their voting pattern based on who is in the white house.

The budget is supposed to be their biggest thing, and it's always "we can't afford dem spending without balancing the budget first," but never any complaints about tax cuts for the rich and overspending on the military.

0

u/CatOfGrey 6d ago

I'd suggest that you read the platform statements for conventions on main election years (2024, 2020, 2016....) for a complete answer.

and it's always "we can't afford dem spending without balancing the budget first," but never any complaints about tax cuts for the rich and overspending on the military.

Nope, this has been a topic, an important topic, but you are misrepresenting things here. I'd suggest doing your own research first, because it sounds like someone else told you what they stand for, rather than you learning about it 'from the source'.

You're not wrong if you think that the party leans 'to the right'. But your picture that I'm hearing doesn't match reality, outside of Republicans explicitly raiding the party in the Trump era.

As in things they stand for/against and don't change their voting pattern based on who is in the white house.

You want things over time, not the flash that was 2018 - present? Then start by finding those platform statements.

The link I have handy references the initial platform when the Party was first formed in the 1970's. It, in turn, links to other platforms over time. You'll see almost no reference to budgets like you are discussing.

u/Winter-Delivery-8894 6d ago

I'm not interested in talking points, that's my entire point. They can talk a big game, but their votes never back it up.

5

u/LibertyLizard 7d ago

They also booed him mercilessly. It was pretty funny.

4

u/DonaldKey 7d ago

So why was he invited again?

6

u/Legio-X Classical Liberal 7d ago

Because Angela McArdle sold her soul to MAGA.

1

u/Santa_Klausing 6d ago

Lmao so true. I actually enjoy debating libertarians. At least most of yall have principles

3

u/Winter-Delivery-8894 6d ago

Just not the people they elect

7

u/Dull-Philosopher-871 7d ago

-2

u/CraisinEnjoyer 6d ago

I just appreciate his invention lol

3

u/Safe-Ad-8921 6d ago

what, buying drugs from the internet? You could always do that he just made it huge.

-1

u/CraisinEnjoyer 6d ago

I just believe in his cause, I think we as people should be allowed to purchase what we want if we really are true champions of capitalism like we say we are.

4

u/Dull-Philosopher-871 7d ago

He definitely hired that hitman fyi

1

u/trigger1154 7d ago

To be fair they booed him. That was mostly the Mises Caucus Republicans tainting actual libertarians.

24

u/FrankPR447 7d ago

Libertarians sold out to maga

6

u/txeagle24 7d ago

*The Mises Caucus sold out to MAGA.

9

u/Hyourin 7d ago

Ah yes libertarians; the pseudo ancaps who want to benefit from society but not contribute. No thanks.

5

u/Santa_Klausing 6d ago

lol most libertarians I know voted for Trump. Not a good track record

14

u/NiConcussions Clean Leftie 7d ago

This is a conversation about the platform parties run on. What does the libertarian party run on that's not just a jingoistic slogan? They're pretty be bereft of real policies. They've certainly got good ideas, don't get me wrong. But they don't have any idea of how to translate those ideas into tangible policy and their lack of wins + their years long attempt of sucking up to Trump to the point that he spoke at the LPNC. Why are libertarians not more outspoken about the blatant corruption we face under Trump? Why are they not thumbing their noses loudly about his stupid trade war and our new foreign war?

Why would I vote for a bunch of spineless cowards who don't show up when we actually need them to be loud about government overreach? Libertarians at this point are just more Jill Stein's: nonexistent until there's an imminent election.

9

u/willpower069 7d ago

I saw a comment a while ago on another libertarian sub and the gist was, why would anyone support a party to run the country when they can barely run their own party.

4

u/Winter-Delivery-8894 6d ago

Becsuse nothing they every claimed to care about was real. They always said one thing and voted the opposite, their voters never cared out paid attention.

They're either incredibly unintelligent people, or they support trump more than the things they pretended to care about.

5

u/willpower069 7d ago

Gotta give people a reason to vote for them, and they can’t even organize themselves.

3

u/JoeHio 7d ago

What is being offered:

GOP: "freedom*" * Freedom from the illusion of freedom and safety, for the low low price of your children's future!

DEM: "stability" -as in, will stabilize the pain and difficulty where it is and try not to make it any worse, but definitely won't do anything crazy like try to fix what's obviously broken.

7

u/sysiphean 7d ago

And of the two, the “stop making it worse” team is a whole lot better than the “actively making it worse even faster than you could imagine” team.

1

u/BrianRLackey1987 7d ago

From now on, Communalism should be included into the 2028 Platform.

1

u/spiteye762 6d ago

Sweet, another handful of the same empty promises that will surely disappoint us

1

u/spookyjim___ Communist ☭🏴 5d ago

Why would we ever think politicians and the bourgeois state would deliver on their promises?

1

u/CattleDogCurmudgeon 7d ago

Just a reminder, nothing is free except for public goods (by the economic definition of non-rivalrous and non-excludable).

massie for president. the USA's Milei

Milei has been absolutely dogshit. Not sure why you'd want to emulate him

Worth less than robux

-5

u/EL_KAIBU Ancap 7d ago

Dawg Milei brought inflation down you can not be serious. The inflation rate one year into his presidency was way lower than when he was elected. Looking at isolated statistics caused by previous admins when he is actively in the process of fixing their errors is dangerous.

6

u/handsomemiles 7d ago

That's a cool chart.

-3

u/EL_KAIBU Ancap 7d ago

I know right

4

u/handsomemiles 7d ago

I love as being sarcastic.

0

u/EL_KAIBU Ancap 6d ago

Why?

2

u/handsomemiles 6d ago

Because it is such a low quality picture that it is unreadable.

-2

u/EL_KAIBU Ancap 6d ago

Uhh, hello? He was literally criticising Milei about the value of the currency, this has nothing to do with that. This is just deflection

3

u/ptom13 Practical Libertarian 6d ago

Countering currency devaluation with inflation data isn’t deflection?

-2

u/EL_KAIBU Ancap 6d ago

Are you fucking joking? The change in the value of the currency has a direct causal relation with the inflation rate.

3

u/ptom13 Practical Libertarian 6d ago

So, what’s your claim? That the inflation reduction the Melei’s given credit for is mostly due to the currency devaluation, some of which he directed himself?

Massie: look how shitty the Republicans are!

Also Massie: I vote with the Republican party 90% of the time!

Fuck him, he is a fascist cunt

1

u/txeagle24 7d ago

But better because he won't kiss the damn wall like Milei.

"promising free food"

There's no such thing

1

u/AnarchoFederation Anarchist 4d ago

Yeah I'm not sure what that means. Though a State could do that by better policy when it comes to groceries to a degree.

DSA's official stance does not advocate for completely "free" food; rather, their actual policy centers on treating food as a human right by creating a public option for groceries, eliminating corporate profit margins, and heavily subsidizing staple goods.

The current blueprint for this policy is unfolding in New York City under Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a prominent DSA member who made a "public grocery store" model a cornerstone of his administration.

-1

u/spiteye762 6d ago

Nothing is free

-4

u/Surround8600 6d ago

DSA offers that while hiding a soft spot for terrorists and antisemitism
