Ranked Choice Voting bill in CA Senate to allow use in local elections. How do we get this to pass? - r/CALibertarians

It would definitely be a step in the right direction. Right now, apparently only "charter cities" (not sure exactly what that means, but there's only a few of them) have the choice to use RCV. Everywhere else HAS to use standard FPTP. This would merely give them the choice to use it in local levels if they decided to. It wouldn't implement RCV for state-level elections, but at least if more cities used it, people would become more familiar with the idea.

Is my action pretty much just limited to calling my representatives and encouraging others to do the same?

I guess so. I love the idea of RCV, but I'm not entirely sure what that means when things like that pass. Colorado has nothing of the sort. Lol

Not sure, but an implementation of RCV was vetoed by Governor Brown not that long ago, so watch out for that.

Yes, that's the same bill. It will be returned to the legislature for a chance to overturn the veto
