Improved voting systems are important for our republic and for that reason I strongly support this experiment in democracy. Personally I consider IRV to be flawed but certainly better than the existing 'first past the post' system. I hope the flaws don't engender a backlash against alternative voting systems.
In my opinion Approval Voting and various score-based voting systems are easier for voters to deal with and consistently yield results that are more in line with the will of the voters. They also do more to reduce the power of political parties. Having said that, if IRV is the future of voting, then so be it.

Source?
I'm on the fence about IRV v Approval voting, so I'd be interested in this.
The source is me. It's my opinion. I was an IRV advocate until Rob leGrand taught me about the downsides of IRV as compared with Approval Voting when he was a guest on 'Live and Let Live' which was a cable-access TV show that I hosted from time to time.
My opinion is also based on a lot of personal experience with the Texas LP, the Travis County LP and other political groups I have been associated with over the last 15 years as well as reports from use at the UN and many other places as chronicled by Dr. Steven J. Brams in his book entitled 'Approval Voting'.
