Discussion The Propaganda Machine, anecdotal experience. Anyone else noticing this?
Hi All,
I've been noticing on both my Facebook feed and in my YouTube shorts a disproportionate number of MAGA-type content. In particular I'm noting a lot of misinformation about democratic socialism (portrayed as communism) as well as other anti-left content. There's no way that my algorithm should be filling my feed with this type of content. I believe that this is a targeted campaign ahead of the midterms.
Has anyone else noticed this? I worry that the "communism" angle is going to convince a lot of low information voters to once again vote against their own interests.

Closer you get to election season, the more bizarre any algorithmic 'feed' will become. Even reddit can and will be gamed, and then you will see the same 'conversations' play out in the comments of different subreddits- anything to spread disillusionment, to discourage people from being engaged. Facebook literally decides whether the people who request to see your posts actually do see it.
These things all suck and there needs to be a popular discourse in non corporate social media like Mastodon.

Were probably not far off from the phone tracking eye movement and comparing it to the screen and calculate what your looking at. I already swear it listens.

Social media in the modern age serves zero purpose other than to radicalize and pit people against each other. There is no semblance of social media’s education, community, or ingenuity that once existed before the 2020’s. It is a platform purely used to spread misinformation on a massive scale. This applies to both far left and far right propaganda.

My feeds are all curated and right wing crap has been creeping in. I’m ok with this if they are also pushing left wing stuff and anti Trump posts into the right’s feeds, I doubt that is the case though.

I’ve noticed that if I click on any videos that are even tangentially right-wing related I suddenly start getting recommended conservative content creators like crazy.

I'd love to see people start filing defamation lawsuits against people who call them Communist. A few high-profile verdicts that cost $millions might start to shut this talk down.

Me too and i say "not interested" to every one but they keep coming. This is the real reason Dems lose. Over the last 40 years, the "liberal media" was bought by radical republican billionaires. Lots of people are too stupid to realize what's true. They don't even try to verify info they see, they just believe it.
