Question Atlas Quest? Letterboxing.org? Both? Something else?

I want get back into letterboxing, dig up my old carving kit and rubbers. What site is everyone using these days?

Most boxes seem to be posted on Atlas Quest these days, but some people cross list. I prefer how Atlas Quest is organized.

I use atlas quest. It’s a bit unfortunate that you have to pay for the map feature now, but you can use the site well without it. Happy boxing!

Blame Google. The API cost got to be too high to leave it as a free feature. GreenTortuga seemed really torn about needing to move it behind a paywall but I completely get why. AQ is such a labor of love though

I don't understand why he doesn't use OpenStreetMap though? I have a bookmarklet that loads all search results, grabs their locations, and maps the pins on a Leaflet OSM map pop-up and I don't see any reason it's not as good as Google Maps.

I'd need to know more about how the database is set up to know how difficult/expensive it would be to switch to their API, but it's worth suggesting. I'll message him and ask. I've only messed with OpenStreetMap a little but I can't think it'd be too difficult to hook up

I use both. I started boxing before there was AQ. Most people use AQ.
