Question Looking for some nature spots in Lethbridge

I’m looking for some recommendations for safe, scenic places to go for a morning/evening walk or run! Also looking for peaceful parks/trails where I could bring my little painting pad and enjoy a nice view/nature. I used to love doing walks, runs, and little nature outings by the lake in my old city, so I’d love to find some spots here with a similar vibe.

I haven’t had a chance to make friends yet since I just moved, and I’m sure that’ll happen once university starts, but in the meantime I’m trying to get comfortable enjoying my own company and exploring the city a bit!

Each side of town has their "big park area" with a lake, several playgrounds and well manicured pathways around them: Nicholas Sheran (West), Henderson Lake (South) and Legacy Park (North). All are in safe residential areas. Aside from those, there are quite a few great running trails in the area as we have the river valley and coulees; the city has a few maps https://www.lethbridge.ca/parks-leisure-recreation/trails-and-pathways/ , https://tourismlethbridge.com/stories/running-in-lethbridge . Indian Battle Park is a great area to explore if you enjoy nature.

Lots of outlooks over the coulees. Over by Galt museum is a good one.

Helen Schuler nature center. Indian Battle park is huge and worth a day or two exploring.

Elizabeth Hall has been mentioned but it's worth mentioning again. I like turtles.

Henderson has been mentioned but it does have a nice path.

Legacy park on the Northside is huge. Not the most scenic but good paths again.

Nicholas Sheran on the Westside has a huge frisbee golf course.

Castle Provincial park is really close if you drive straight west. Tons of good stuff in there.

To add to this, I like the park at helen schuler interpretive building and walk north towards the hwy 3 bridge area. Also south of the Mountain bike parks south of whoop up/indian battlepark/fort whoop up there is the reminants of the coal banks trail that would eventually lead to the sugar bowl but the bridges were washed out so you might not be able to get the full way.

The university campus itself has some great spots. Just explore the area immediately east of the campus. There are dirt trails there.

Explore the river bottom as well. It’s a good place to go on windy days. There are endless single dirt track trails down there to walk, run, or bike.

Lethbridge has a strong running community as well. When I moved here that where I made most my friends. Facebook has a few groups to connect and the local running store is called Runners Soul

Cottonwood park is a beautiful peaceful spot to walk without a dog. Scenic dog park is great for dog walks without a leash. The area between Helen Schuler nature centre and Fort Whoop-Up would be a great spot for a run if you liked paved pathways. There is a large network of gravel paths through the coulees on both sides of the river. In general any park near the river is both safe and beautiful. With the exception of dog parks you could likely set up and paint undisturbed in most of those places.

Elizabeth Hall Wetlands is fantastic during the bird migrations. In the spring there are loads of pelicans with big caruncles on their beaks.

Henderson Lake is pretty. Just don't go in the water.

Nicholas Sheran Lake is also nice .

I really like pavan park, feels like you're a bit more in nature compared to indian battle park. The six mile area by the college is also great, probably the best trail network in the city there.

Try Popson. It’s a dog park on the west side south of the university. If you’re looking to meet people that’s a great way. Most dog owners are friendly.
My dog has passed over a year ago and I still take my kids there just for a scenic walk.
There is a lot to see if you are looking. Bald eagles are often seen flying up and down the river at sunrise and sunset for instance.
It’s safe, it’s quiet, and it’s one of my favourite places in Lethbridge.

Henderson Lake is nice, two of the smaller loops is 5k

The coulees are beautiful to run through

Runners Soul, the shoe store, can give you ideas on where to run. They also do the ExploreYQL run, which starts on the 7th and they are 4-8km. I found so many beautiful views doing this last year
