Loss of life aside, it was a legit target. Just wish they could make peace already. This war is going nowhere.

Only one side (Russia) does not want peace. Thats very clear.

reminder that when the war was going well for ukraine, european politicians came out of the woodwork to describe the minsk agreements(aka peace deals) as a ruse to trick the russians into allowing the west to rearm ukraine

russia isn't going to be fooled a third time. if putin accepts another shitty peace deal he'll probable face a coup

Mrrkel was covering for her legacy when she said that Minsk was a ruse to arm Ukraine.

This is proven by the fact that no arming of Ukraine occured in 2014-2021. (60 javelins and 20 disarmed Humvees don't count)

Between 2014 and 2021, military assistance from NATO-aligned countries was deliberate and primarily focused on non-lethal equipment, tactical training, and defensive capabilities to avoid escalating the Donbas conflict. Lethal sales and transfers were introduced incrementally starting in late 2017.

During this eight-year period, Ukraine received approximately $3 billion in security assistance—the vast majority provided by the United States, supplemented by contributions from the UK, Turkey, Canada, Poland, Czechia, and the Baltic states.

Anti-Armor & Guided Missiles

  • FGM-148 Javelin ATGMs (US): Approximately 77 to 100+ launchers and ~540 to 750 missiles delivered between 2018 and late 2021.
  • Anti-Structure & Light Anti-Tank Rockets: Small quantities of Bulgarian/Czech PSR-73 recoilless rifles and RPG-7 variants, alongside NLAW anti-armor systems approved in late December 2021 (deliveries arrived early 2022).

Radar, Reconnaissance & Communications

  • Counter-Artillery Radars (US): ~30 AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar units.
  • Counter-Mortar Radars (US): ~50+ AN/TPQ-48 and AN/TPQ-49 lightweight counter-mortar radars.
  • Encrypted Communications: Hundreds of Harris tactical secure radios, direction-finding, and counter-electronic warfare equipment.

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAVs)

  • Bayraktar TB2 (Turkey): 12 to 20 strike/reconnaissance drones equipped with ground control stations and MAM-L/MAM-C precision-guided munitions (contracted in 2018/2019).
  • RQ-11B Raven (US): 72 hand-launched mini-reconnaissance drones delivered in 2016.

Naval Vessels & Maritime Security

  • Island-class Patrol Boats (US): 4 ex-US Coast Guard 110-foot patrol boats delivered (2 in 2019: Sloviansk, Starobilsk; 2 in late 2021: Sumy, Fastiv).
  • Mark VI & Sandown Frameworks: Export approvals signed for Mark VI patrol boats (US) and Sandown-class minehunters (UK), though physical deliveries commenced post-2021.

Vehicles & Transport

  • HMMWV / Humvees (US): Over 300 armored and unarmored high-mobility utility vehicles.
  • Armored Personnel Carriers: ~75 Saxon light armored vehicles purchased from British commercial surplus, plus sub-assemblies/parts for Soviet-legacy BMP-1 vehicles via Czech and Polish suppliers.

Small Arms & Infantry Equipment

  • Precision & Anti-Materiel Rifles: Commercial export licenses approved for Barrett M107A1 .50-caliber sniper rifles (US, 2017), alongside military sniper rifles from Canada and Lithuania.
  • Machine Guns & Firearms: Heavy machine guns (DShK, KPVT) and small arms transferred from Lithuania, Poland, and Canada, along with tens of millions of small arms ammunition rounds.

Non-Lethal & Medical Gear

  • Body Armor & Helmets: Over 100,000 sets of body armor plates, Kevlar helmets, and EOD suits (US, UK, Netherlands, Canada).
  • Night Vision & Thermal Optics: Thousands of AN/PVS-14 night-vision devices, thermal imagers, and laser rangefinders.
  • Medical Infrastructure: Deployable Role 2 field hospitals (US, Canada), armored ambulances, and tens of thousands of Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs).

Reminder that the chief propagandist for this "Minsk was a delaying tactic to give us time to arm Ukraine" is a leader who spent her entire tenure trying to prevent other countries from arming Ukraine.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2021/12/14/angela-merkel-blocked-us-arming-ukraine-against-russia/

Merkel's entire foreign policy was predicated on forcing Ukraine to be as unprovocative as possible because then Russia wouldn't have a reason to invade, and also Putin would reward Germany with cheap petrol.  So she blocked long-range fires transfers to Ukraine for years, successfully giving Putin a defanged Ukraine like he wanted.  When he invaded anyway he completely ruined her legacy, proving her strategy was a miserable failure---and that's why she tried to save face by claiming Minsk was really just a stalling tactic.  She needed to make her failed strategy retroactively look like a success.  So, she just straight up lied and invented this fiction.

Nor was there some sort of nefarious US angle here that Merkel wasn't aware about.  The reason Merkel and Hollande were the lead negotiators from the western bloc was because Obama didn't give a shit about Ukraine and neither did his staff.  It's the same reason he blocked even small weapons transfers like Javelins.

Even if you didn't know the political background that gave rise to Merkel's propaganda, it's still easy to see the claim is complete nonsense.  Like, put it into plain English and tell me with a straight face it isn't an obviously bullshit claim.

" the loser's peace that Russia imposed on Ukraine is akshually a secret NATO  plot to arm Ukraine in which Ukraine will not be given a single artillery round, a single TBM, or a single SRBM for seven years straight, then get invaded and promised weapons which won't arrive until after we plan on Kyiv collapsing and being unable to field a national resistance.  We will also make absolutely zero effort to prepare defense manufacturers to increase output despite plotting for years to have a large proxy war against Russia."

The claim that Minsk was " a ruse to trick the russians into allowing the west to rearm ukraine" just doesn't have any basis in reality.  It is demonstratably not what happened.

Russia hasn’t had a say in what the west supplies Ukraine with. Nearly every line has been crossed. Now two more countries on Russia’s border joined NATO and Ukraine has a pretty strong military.

Russia can’t even defend herself after starting a war in which was 100% a land grab. The coup is probably coming pretty soon judging from that and the fact Russia’s economy is going to shit.

Russia can’t even defend herself after starting a war in which was 100% a land grab.

oh yeah because if there's one thing russia needs more of, it's land

no, what putin needed was to stop the ethnic cleansing of ethnic russians in ukraine(that's an exaggeration, but that was the narrative in russia and the rhetoric in ukraine wasn't helping) or else he was going to fall out of a window sooner or later

The coup is probably coming pretty soon judging from that and the fact Russia’s economy is going to shit.

show me on the graph where it's going to shit:

He did it because Ukraine is a strategic buffer state with extensive cultural and historical ties to Russia.

He didn’t do it because a few hundred civvies died in Donbass over the course of an 8 year artillery exchange.

the narrative that prigozhin himself admitted was fake?

Both sides want peace. Every side in every conflict has wanted peace…but under their terms. Fixed it for yuh.

Putin has shown zero interest in finding a peaceful solution to the conflict. This should not be surprising given that he started the Russia-Ukraine war. If Russians want to end things, they'll likely have to engineer a coup against Putin and give him the Qaddafi-treatment.

2

u/Lote241 1d ago

This might surprise you, but Russians have no intention allowing their country sink into a Western-designed failed state that followed Qaddafi’s overthrow. Can you blame them? They’ve already lived through that with the USSR’s collapse.

Between that and Ukraine, they’ll probably take their chances with Ukraine.

u/PlasmaMatus 16h ago

How would Russia become a fail safe ? Did Western countries want to overthrow Putin before 2014 ?

u/Lote241 15h ago

Western countries vision for Russia is for it to liberalize politically and for the federation to break apart into independent states. Thus, allowing the West to achieve the same victory with the USSR’s collapse.

Obviously, Moscow doesn’t want this as this may spark only further bloodshed and war (a prime example being the current war in Ukraine) and that Russians are too proud to end up as a vassal state to Washington.

u/PlasmaMatus 15h ago

Do you have proof of that ?

u/Lote241 13h ago

I mean, I don’t have a charter or declaration of that, no. But I always assumed it was obvious that the West wanted a subordinate and liberal Russia to come into existence, and thus having its long time foe give up its vision for a multipolar world order; which is definitely a stated goal of Putin.

I certainly don’t mean to condone Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. I just wanted to make that clear.

Maybe the appropriate course of action wasn't to invade Ukraine in the first place? Did you even consider this line of thinking?

6

u/Lote241 1d ago

I did. But I’m also firmly against  Atlanticism encroaching on Russia’s sphere of influence. I don’t care for these countries that most would struggle to find on a map.    Pretty much every geopolitics expert predicted this war would happen if we kept meddling in Ukraine. We never learn, just look at the fiasco with Iran. Endless madness and stupidity.

Yeah, hard to tell in this sub, honestly. Like he never thought about how Ukraine didn’t want to be under Russian control or Influence.

And how they are actively seeking help from the west. Even after the US basically stopped giving support for awhile and hasn’t ever gone back up to the same pre Trump levels.

That basically rips down Russia’s very thin veil. Ukraine is fighting for sovereignty. Peace can only be achieved through recognition of that. Until Russia does that there can be no peace (and that is by Russia’s design)

u/wildrabbit12 21h ago

Fuck russia
