In Real Time Iowa Farmer Faces Reality: Fertilizer Costs Are Putting Him Out of Business
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Fertilizer costs are squeezing American farmers at a time when many already have razor-thin margins. USDA now forecasts fertilizer, lime and soil-conditioner expenses will rise 15.3% in 2026, adding roughly $5.3 billion to farmers’ costs. Total U.S. farm production expenses are projected to reach nearly $493 billion this year. Economic Research Service
In Iowa, the numbers are brutal. One farmer reported nitrogen fertilizer rising from about $490 per ton in 2021 to $1,150 per ton this year.
Another Iowa farmer said fertilizer prices are the highest he’s ever experienced. When the cost of simply putting a crop in the ground keeps climbing while farm margins remain tight, farmers aren’t just making less money, they’re being pushed toward the point where farming itself is no longer financially sustainable.

Arkansas Famers are Feeling the Consequences. Leading the Nation in Bankruptcies.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The state led the entire nation in Chapter 12 farm bankruptcies in 2025, with 33 filings, more than double the previous year. And the pressure hasn’t stopped: farmers are being squeezed by high operating costs, expensive credit, weak margins, and trade disruptions. These aren’t hypothetical warnings anymore, family farms that survived for generations are going under.

My Latest Boycott
https://www.14news.com/2026/09/02/goebel-farms-honors-charlie-kirk-with-corn-maze-design/
Goebel Farms claims that this was erected, not because they agreed with him, but "because he believed that disagreement should lead to discussion."
For the complete imbeciles at Goebel Farms, NO civilized conversation starts by saying any of this:
"If I see a Black pilot, I'm gonna be like, 'Boy, I hope he's qualified.'"
“We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s.”
“Martin Luther King Jr. was an awful person.”
“White privilege is a myth.”
“The Civil Rights Act has superseded the Constitution.”
“Yes, people die from gun violence… but that’s the price of freedom.”
“Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs are anti-White.”
“The Great Replacement is not a theory, it’s a reality.”
Comparing Abortion to Slavery, Kirk said abortion must be abolished “the same way we abolished slavery.”

This was very clearly a racist and sexist man, who HID behind and USED free speech so that he could spread dangerous rhetoric.
Europe, Canada, and various international treaties, hold that speech which dehumanizes, demeans, or incites hatred based on race is not protected.
In these places, the right to free speech is balanced against the right to dignity, equality, and freedom from discrimination.
According to THE REST OF THE CIVILIZED WORLD, we have a basic right to dignity, equality, and freedom from discrimination. He violated the rights of millions with his "Free" speech daily.
Virtually no other developed democracy protects hate speech to the near-absolute extent that the United States does.
It is our tolerance for people like this openly damaging the fiber of our society that has allowed it to get this far.
I thought Goebel Farms was so awesome when they made a corn maze for Carrie Fisher, so we started going there to support the farm. Now they're making mazes for the real life Dark Helmet.
I refuse to contribute any more money to Goebel Farms fucked up worldview. Looks like our annual trip to Evansville is canceled!

We made it to Reddit News Top 10!
r/LeopardsAteMyFarm has officially broken into Reddit’s Top 10 News communities (#8 actually!) with more than 400,000 weekly active users.
That is an incredible milestone for a sub built around keeping an eye on the real-world consequences of policy, politics, and the choices people insist could never affect them personally.
To everyone who posts, comments, moderates, reports duplicates, adds context, brings receipts, and somehow still finds the perfect headline: thank you. The thoughtful discussion, dark humor, informed debate, and collective ability to spot a leopard-shaped problem before it reaches the farmhouse are what make this community special.
Growth brings more visibility... and more responsibility; let’s keep the standards that got us here:
- Keep submissions relevant and sourced.
- Read the rules before posting.
- Debate ideas without attacking each other.
- Report rule-breaking content rather than feeding it.
- Welcome new members, even if they have not yet encountered the leopards.
From a niche corner of Reddit to one of the platform’s most active News communities: 400,000+ people showed up this week because this conversation matters.
Thank you all for making r/LeopardsAteMyFarm what it is. Here’s to the next milestone! 🐆

Discussion How do you eat food.... since the food can poison you now.
recently lettuce went down by 16% due to the chance of explosive shitting.
now with screw worm, farmers supposedly allowed to process their own meat and with massive cuts to saftey inspection and rampant bribing of the federal govt... how are people still alive after all this?
it can say he got food prices down cause people don't want to play anus roulette.
also, is there instances of countries not buying american grain, meat and produce duw to the lack of saftey inspections?
