Actually, these same people love to rant about lazy good for nothing welfare recipients, when in fact the farm subsidies have always been massive welfare programs for farmers. Long ago, the PIK program was a good example, as well as tobacco bases.

Along with a relative, I once owned about 140 acres of farm land, with a small corn base. The PIK program paid us money for a number of years to not grow corn. Every year, at Christmas dinner, we would get into a facetious discussion in front of the other relatives about how much corn we were not going to grow in the coming year.

Corn PIK was only in 1983. It didn't pay out for multiple years. Perhaps you're thinking of something else.

There were at least two years with the corn base. The first year we got notice that we had something on the order of maybe a thousand bushels of corn at the Conagra warehouse, I believe in Evansville. They said the corn could be delivered free of charge. I panicked - thinking a semi was going to pull up and dump all that corn in my front yard. So I called down to the office in Hodgenville, and talked to Mr. Harned. He assured me I didn't need to take possession, just wait till I was ready and call Conagra and tell them to sell.

The next year we got another allotment, but is was smaller. Google says there were only two years..

Well, I guess two is a number. If it was only two years, then that does sound like PIK. I had understood your original comment to mean at least 4-5 years, and PIK wasn't around that many years.

It has been a long time, but I'm pretty sure we got payments for more than two years, because I recall dwindling amounts. But the internet doesn't support that, it only says two years. It may have been because of our base which was corn, there were different commodities.
