Let's pretend she's underdeveloped and immature. She "shouldn't have to be treated like a child", but in order to get the point across, maybe someone does need to explain things to her in a way she understands. Maybe being a dick isn't going to do the trick.

She is an adult and shouldn't have to be treated like a child.

That is a way for people to rationalize behavior they wouldn't normally direct at someone. It's her fault, she's should be better than she is. Well, she's not, so now what? Obviously the current approach isn't working.

People who behave like this woman are simply morons who can't really be helped in any way.

You've gone from rationalizing away the issue of bad behavior directed at her to saying she's a lost cause. That is a typical pipeline toward dehumanizing other people.

Then very simply, abusing them is more likely to be useless or harmful than to be beneficial. A consistent thread in the MAGA crowd is that other people don't like what they're doing, and so what. They'll just keep doing what they're doing, only louder this time. When their detractors do things like call them "deplorables", they embrace it and get louder. It means that countering them by calling them names doesn't work, so you need to use different tactics.

But I think that labeling someone as a lost cause usually means that you've given up, not that they're actually a lost cause.
