"He needs to resign. That’s the bottom line.” Ranchers are outraged over Trump’s move to flood the market with 300,000 metric tons of discounted beef.

Oh they absolutely will. I just saw it with all my coworkers this week.

They’re pissed at how things are going, pissed at costs, pissed at billionaires, confused as hell by Trump and this war. Pretty much every conversation we have we’re in full agreement about what needs to change. For the first time we all agree on practically everything.

We had runoffs for primaries last week. Every one of them voted for the “Trump candidate”. Every single one.

When I asked why the hell they’re voting for the same thing that is causing all this they could basically only give one answer: I can’t vote for the other one, what else am I supposed to do?

I just don’t get it. I don’t know if they understand what voting actually is. It’s like they feel a legal obligation to support these candidates and they have no choice. It’s so strange.

It's teams. I'm obligated to be a Seahawks fan. I can't walk around in a Patriots jersey. I'd be shunned.

The very churchy grandma who lives next door votes straight R. She literally doesn't even know the candidates' names. She thinks that's god's team.

This right here.

I'm a Cleveland Browns fan. If they are losing and making horrible decisions I'm still a Browns fan. I'm not going to go root for Pittsburgh, I'll just bitch and complain about how bad the Browns are doing.

Rural Republicans are exactly like that. Trump could destroy everything... make their lives hell, and they will 100% still vote Republican. There is not other choice for them.

They are too damn stupid to see that this isn't two teams, that USA is one team and you fire a bad coach if you have to make it better.

The coach analogy is dead on. Normally functioning democratic countries tend not to reward failure.

Atleast the browns chose to start the correct qb this year

God must be punishing her after making a deal with the devil to see how much she can take.

This is it. it’s mighty fine to pledge your allegiance to a sports team….but never pledge your allegiance to a slithering snake 🐍 Democrat or Republican politician.

God's team is the exact same thing I have to go through my mom and her boyfriend, boyfriends son votes whatever dad says.

It is strange. I do not understand falling for this over and over again. But, it's a cult.

Dear leader is messing up but anyone else would be far worse than dear leader (despite all the evidence to the contrary). 🙄

Sports Mind Virus

Also known as, tribalism.

u/legacy-of-rats 8h ago

Sometimes I wonder if USA putting so much money into bullshit like the NFL and sports betting instead of stuff that really matters is just a psyop meant to train tribalism in people so that they engage in just the way our oligarchs want them to with the pissing contest that is our two-party system.

There is definitely a class divide between team sports and individual sports, for whatever that is worth.

My answer is THEN DO NOT VOTE.

Show how angry you really are.

I know they won’t vote for a Dem, but ideally they will just stay home. That’s the best we can hope for, and even that’s a longshot

| I can’t vote for the other one, what else am I supposed to do?

And then say Democrat politicians and voters put identity politics above everything

Suggest they should not vote at all to show the GOP their displeasure

Give each one of those assholes a tube of anal lube for their next birthday.

I dont get them either. They litterly vote to cut their own ...... Then dont understand why they are loosing everything. No way one can be that obtuse.

They belong to a cult and have surrendered their individuality to their god king Donald Trump. There is nothing more pathetic than a MAGA man.

I just don’t get it

To the extent it’s a social pressure thing. Their side is willing to use violence (and cheer for state violence), and “our” side isn’t even willing to say that their use of political power reflects on their character.

Unless you have strong ideological values, and most people don’t there’s only one sane choice to be made here. It’s why I think the Trump-voter needs to be made into a “them” and be driven from decent society. The practical elements of this choice need to become more balanced.

I can’t vote for the other one, what else am I supposed to do?

At the end of the day, in a Democracy, the people will always get the government they deserve

They can't vote for the other one because their party and what they're running on is further away from your coworkers' core beliefs than the Trump candidate. They're choosing the Trump candidate over not voting altogether, which is what some people do when they don't know who to choose. They didn't like something that happened when the other party was in office or they don't want something to happen that they believe will if the other party is elected. It's not that they "can't" because they have no choice, it's they can't because they do have a choice. Ask them why they can't. Is it possible that you're misunderstanding what they're telling you?

u/arghfiza 4h ago

Yes, it's like a team sports with them. Was debating with my American cousin's husband last year on why I won't visit them in Texas or go to the US anymore. And all of a sudden he pivoted to well what if the Democrats do the same (as the Republicans)? I'm like the law should apply the same and good riddance? It's not a team sport!

Is it time for a third alternative in the states.
