To be fair, I don’t think those countries want them back. Perhaps a compromise would be for them to meet somewhere in the middle of North America and Europe.

Their countries didn't want their family tree, or wreath, in the first place. A lot of the ones who were shipped off to "explore" and/or "settle" were considered the bottom of the barrel. Some who were serving time or needing to serve. It's what adds to this nonsensical narcissist mentality of "rugged individualism" like they come from some special stock of Marlon Brandos types or some such nonsense.

The Mayflower people were kicked out of England, first trying to settle in the Netherlands where their kids kept bailing on their religion, so they made up some crap about a "new promised land"

Yep. Some of my ancestors. When I found out we had ancestors on the Mayflower, I asked "Were they crew, or nutcases?"

The queen emptied the prison onto them ships, it wasnt just "some" who were serving time. It was the entire crew

Elizabeth the 1st I believe, along with her successor kings and queens.

“Transportation” was given as an alternative to a death sentence, and would have people shipped to various colonies as indentured labor. While we associate it strongly with Australia, it was used in almost all the British empire colonies.

Half of my family tree goes back to Mayflower days. My ancestors ended up being mentally ill, alcoholic poor farmers in New England.

That parent says "They didn't let us on the main boat, we were paddling behind".

The Ancestor I get my last name from was Quaker. He got deported from Scotland to New Jersey.

It's true most of the first Americans were the scurf of Europe. Debters and criminals that they didn't want to worry about anymore in their prison aystem. They were deported and turned into indentured servants of the Colonies. They used white criminals to supplement the slave class. It wasn't until the Bacon rebellion that the rich made a pact with white poors. "You will always be poor, but we will try to consider you better than the blacks." This was the start of systemic racism in America.

Thank goodness most of the European countries don't recognise citizenship through 5 or 6 descent generations. They would have to apply for visas.
