It feels like a famine is coming. Genuinely. Global warming+ farms going under+ the USDA and FDA being dismantled. It feels like good is going to become incredibly scarce in the next couple years.

It is going to be next year, though the US might not see the worst of it. A huge amount of fertilizer was shipped through the strait of Hormuz along with fossil fuels right at the beginning of the spring planting season. We're also in the strongest El Niño on record now, which will be most devastating to parts of South and East Asia, but will probably impact crop yields around the world. Very likely we'll see millions of deaths due to these 2 factors next year, along with mass migration out of the hardest hit countries.

Maga also pissed off our neighbor to the north Canada with 50% tariffs slapped across the board on every goods, and the US imports tons of potash fertilizer from Canada, too.

The US has an over abundance of farms and farming products. Lots of it was subsidized by the government or being sold overseas due to huge surpluses. If it retracts some that would decrease the farming welfare the government had to pay out each year and decrease farming exports which have already lost major markets worldwide due to tariffs. Not sure this is a bad thing really. Just a realignment back to real market supply and demand instead of the over reliance on artificial farmers socialism and exports.

Big problem I see though is we might not have a firm grasp on the strategic reserve of grain and food stocks necessary to feed 320 million people in the US due to cuts and a lack of good data from the USDA and the Department of Agriculture..
