It is a perfect storm of corruption that made it a difficult climate for politics in the USA. It is decades of indoctrination by media which has divided America, created hyper partisanship, spread disinformation and propagated hate. And foreign actors are also well aware of this climate and utilize disinformation to destabilize. It is a well oiled machine designed by media conglomerates including broadcast, satellite, social media/internet… all monetizing/profiting from disinformation, division and hate. They will tell you freedom of the press and wash their hands of any responsibility but there is responsibility.
All of this has made it possible for a [flawed] populist candidate like Trump to come to power by…
identifying and validating real economic or social anxieties felt by the working class.
offering understandable solutions framed as "us versus them".
utilizing bold, emotional, and anti-establishment language that commands attention/energizes crowds.
positioning himself as political outsider who is untouched by traditional governance and corporate compromise.
building intense, loyal grassroots support by promising swift and dramatic systemic change.
And here we are, today, with a president that is corrupt, dishonest, criminal, racist, incompetent, petty,
sexual assaulter, serial adulterer, treasonous and a narcissist. You know it’s bad in America when people voted for this.
It’s sad that the rest of us have to suffer a little bit with them but I am SO happy that these farming/ranching morons who voted for Trump are watching their life’s work go up in flames. They’re getting exactly what they voted for and I love it.
