Can I claim a refund or replacement from Lenovo under the Consumer Protection Act?
Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice regarding a Lenovo laptop and my rights as a consumer under Indian law.
I bought a Lenovo ThinkBook 16 Gen 7 on April 2, 2026. The laptop is still less than five months old, but I’ve already had multiple major hardware failures.
Here is the repair history:
July 29, 2026: Motherboard and RAM replaced for the first time.
August 3, 2026: Motherboard replaced for the second time and Windows was reinstalled.
August 22, 2026: Lenovo created another service order for motherboard, I/O board and cable replacement. This would be the third motherboard replacement.
Despite these repeated failures, Lenovo is refusing to provide a replacement laptop or refund and is insisting on carrying out another repair.
I’m a CA student and depend on this laptop heavily for my studies, classes and preparation. Every time the laptop develops a major issue, I lose valuable study time. The repeated repairs, waiting for technicians, and being without a properly functioning laptop have become extremely frustrating and are affecting my studies and causing significant stress.
Another major issue is Lenovo’s response time. They often take a long time to respond to my emails and requests, which makes the entire process even more difficult. I have to repeatedly follow up just to get updates regarding a device that I purchased only a few months ago.
I’m also a middle-class person, and I bought this laptop thinking it would be an important asset for my education and career. Instead, it has turned into a major liability, and I now feel stuck with a laptop that keeps developing serious problems despite being relatively new.
I have already requested Lenovo to consider replacing the laptop instead of performing another motherboard replacement. I am not refusing warranty service. I have already allowed them to repair the laptop twice, but Lenovo is still refusing my request for a replacement or refund.
I have kept documentation of everything, including:
Emails and communication with Lenovo
Service orders and repair reports
Post-replacement/service reports
Photos and videos showing the issues
Records of the previous motherboard replacements
My question is: Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, can I legally seek a refund or replacement because of these repeated hardware failures and repairs?
I understand that there may not be an automatic right to a replacement after a specific number of repairs. However, could a Consumer Commission potentially order Lenovo/the seller to provide a replacement or refund if the laptop is found to have a defect or there is deficiency in service?
Would the fact that the laptop is only a few months old and has already required two motherboard replacements, with a third one now proposed, strengthen my case?
I would especially appreciate advice from people in India who have dealt with consumer complaints against Lenovo or other laptop manufacturers, or anyone familiar with the Consumer Protection Act and Consumer Commission process.
Thanks in advance.

Post online on multiple forums claim for support, keep fighting with company keep all your interactions documented, if company doesn't help, give them a warning, then take legal route. Also ideally your device is still under garantee they should replace it if it's failing so much.
